Guest guest
Just remember…for all of you who are talking about taking your kids for testing outside of school. The ARD committee at school does NOT have to take your outside testing…they just have to “consider” it. (which often means barely glance at it and throw it in the trash). The school district DOES have the right to test your child with your written consent. So, regardless of whether you go somewhere and spend a fortune on testing that your insurance doesn’t cover, the school might still not accept it or use it. They can still not provide services (or appropriate services) until they have been allowed to do their own testing. Just wanted to make sure everyone understood that before they spent a lot of money on something that will often times not be used. nna

I would just like to add to this that I had my school district's blessing when I decided to go have my son's evaluations done myself. They were happy to be spared the expense, my insurance covered everything so I was happy to have more control over the testing, and I was careful to use evaluators and tests that met IDEA/Texas/school district requirements. I would not advise doing outside testing without consulting with your school, working with them as necessary, and making sure you know the laws and your rights.
