Hi all Daily mail are publishing some of our comments and also this muppet. Congratulations to Barney Calman for exposing some of the practitioners who are exploiting parents of children with autism by providing tests and treatments of unproven value and uncertain safety. Take secretin. This is a crude extract of pig pancreas that was developed as a diagnostic test and never designed or tested as a treatment. There is no coherent scientific rationale for its use in autism. Studies have shown that it does not work. Yet practitioners are prepared to inject secretin, repeatedly and at great expense, into children with autism. One of the most popular treatments in the USA - heavy metal chelation - is also the most dangerous. One boy from Britain has already died having this treatment in America. As the father of an autistic son and as a doctor I would urge parents to avoid these treatments and the practitioners who provide them. - Fitzpatrick, London, UK, 05/6/2008 07:01 ------------------------------------ DISCLAIMER No information contained in this post is to be construed as medical advice.
