Guest guest
You are so right that teachers and administrators need training! I am constantly feeling like I have to teach them and they are supposed to the experts! Heck, I'm learning as I go along here because I've never had experience until last year with IEP's and behavior plans and such. My guy is #3 of 4 boys! They just don't get it. That's why you need someone who deals only with special needs and autism, whoever is the expert in the district or county, to come in and evaluate and give ideas for how to deal with issues. That made a load of difference with my guy! Subject: Re:In school suspension for 1st graderTo: Texas-Autism-Advocacy Date: Monday, December 8, 2008, 8:09 PM Don't know what ISS stands for but in our old district we had DMC...Detention Management Center...and my then 6yo 1st grader was sent there when he "chose" not to do his work and they couldn't get him to comply. But, they never informed me ahead of time he was going there...I only found out afterwards. And it was after several trips there and other bad experiences that I decided to pull him out of public school. That was 3yrs ago. So, you may want to pay a visit to this ISS and rewrite your BIP. And sounds like they don't know how to deal with his behaviors. Most public schools just want to treat autistic kids like they're willfully misbehaving. The teachers and admins need training.
