Guest guest
We mix it with milk. Ben loves milk, so it works for him. Just make sure it dissolves well. J Mixing Inositol Powder Question We just got the inositol powder that my 11 yr old dd's dr recommended in the mail yesterday. The dr had told my dd it was very sweet and a lot of people just eat it right off the spoon-I thought she had her convinced-should have known. My dd hates taking meds or anything else- she won't even chew her fluoride tablet. So, she said she tasted it, but I doubt it. She's suppose to take 3 teaspoons a day so this morning I mixed 1 1/2 in her juice and she drank it. I was just wondering if this is ok and/or if there is anything better to mix it with and if it still works if it's mixed with something. We don't have an appt for a while so I figured I'd check and see what some of you do before calling the dr and asking her. I don't think my dd's dr has used this before, she had just gone to a seminar on difficult OCD cases and this was suggested by the specialist running it. Aren't I lucky that my dd was the one the dr thought of first Thanks in advance, Dawn

Guest guest
Thanks, I just tried milk at dinner before I read this and she picked it up right away and kept saying her milk tasted too sweet- then some had settled at the bottom, probably didn't mix it enough, so she definitely knew and I'm the bad guy again and probably going to put it in all her food and she doesn't have to take it, yada, yada, yada Why does it always have to be so difficult when you are only trying to help???? Thanks for your message. I appreciate it. Sorry to vent. Dawn > > We mix it with milk. Ben loves milk, so it works for him. Guest guest
We just mixed ours in with Kool-Aid. I'm probably the only mom who gave her child Kool-Aid for his a.m. drink! I do know that the brands we tried mixed differently. Source Naturals has mixed the best for us. Inositol can cause stomach upset, so may not want to do 3 tsp the first day; see how she does on 1 tsp one day, 2 tsp the next.... How many grams are you trying to build her up to, to start? > > We just got the inositol powder that my 11 yr old dd's dr recommended > in the mail yesterday. Guest guest
We did juice tonight and it worked fine so hopefully we'll go with that and she'll be ok. I won't try milk again for her Dawn
Guest guest
Thanks for letting me know. I wasn't sure which brand to order. Tonight I put it in her juice and she knew it and it was no problem, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Dawn
Guest guest
Thanks for letting me know about the upset stomach, I didn't know that. Guess it's a good thing she didn't drink the milk last night. I did about 2 teaspoons in juice tonight and it worked fine. She hasn't complained about feeling sick. I'll probably do 2 again tomorrow and then move to three. Dawn G.
Guest guest
Forgot to answer your question, her dr just told me 3 teaspoons a day. How much do you use? Dawn G.
Guest guest
Dawn, We did 3 tsp a day, sometimes more. When his OCD was really bad, we did 4 a day, sometimes 5! His brand of inositol powder was where 1/4 tsp equaled 845 mg. Brands differ. After a long, long time and OCD was better, we tapered down. The last year he was on it, was only 1 tsp/day, sort of a maintenance dose. If some week was hectic/stressful, we'd just up the dosage a bit. That first year, OCD was sooo bad. We did 4 tsp a day. And sometimes he asked for more, so that was the 5 or so. After it improved in a few months, we went down to 3 and he stayed okay on that for a long time. Eventually we ended up down at that 1 a day. He was on it from grade 6 thru grade 8. His OCD began in Sept. I think I began inositol in Nov. or Dec. I remember at first his OCD seemed worse, and I didn't know if it was just worsening on its own or inositol was making it worse, etc. But I'd read that sometimes the OCD will worsen the first week or so with prescribed medication, so we hung in there; don't recall how long before it seemed to settle back down; and then weeks later began to show improvement a little. The longer he was on it, the more improvement. To balance out the story, if I didn't mention in last post: we tried inositol powder again this year, didn't help! I even later switched brands (tried 2 others) but no better. Some people have noted improvement fairly soon with inositol (or with prescribed medication) while others can take weeks and weeks. Everyone is different! Will be interested to hear how things go! > > Forgot to answer your question, her dr just told me 3 teaspoons a day. How much do you use? Guest guest
To build up the grams, it takes too many pills. Powder is needed. And just FYI, I accidentally ordered " crystals " once instead of " powder. " The crystals didn't dissolve well. Inositol powder is cheaper online than in stores I've found. > > Do you know if it's better for them to take it by powder or can I give it to my daughter in the pill format?(which I found online) Do they sell this up in Canada? > > ~ > > > Re: Mixing Inositol Powder Question > > Thanks for letting me know about the upset stomach, I didn't know that.
