Guest guest
Hi - wow .. you have your hands full Mommy! Wish you were in the states -would love to help you! Regarding school placement for your son - its not so much the class-size (although its sometimes nice to have the smaller size from a sensory/social load - depending on how your little gut handles those types of load) - but sometimes its more about the adult-to-child ratio as well as the approach. As for the ration we find that 1:3 is nice for that age, or even 1:2. Equally important though is the approach or methodology/model they use. Im less familiar with what they use ie., whats "big" in Australia - but you might want to look for programs that offer a TRANSdisciplinary approach. In the states there's a model called The S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Approach that we find works well (the model at the practice I am in). You may want to ask the staff at each school to explain their model - perhaps if they use transdisciplinary care too! I was asked to present on this model at this year's annual conference sponsored by the ASA (Autism Society of America) in Orlando Florida - but I've not heard of any enrollees from Autralia - so perhaps you can ask your team to research it if they do not already use a transdisciplinary model. Good luck - Lynette
