No, I didn't really measure my food. Just mentally. I had some problems with

blockages in the past and Dr. K suggested that I eat Bacon for the lubrication,

lol. I do eat a lot of yogurt, however it is light. I get a lot of my protein

that way. I love Triscuts, they are my favorite. Especially with Longhorn

Cheese. I too eat Jerky, however I'm recently out. I need to get some more.

Thank you again for getting back to me.

Geeze, I eat way more than that!

Now, I gave up bacon years ago. Too greasy. You might try leaner

meats.

You eat alot of yogurt. The good thing is it is full of calcium.

The bad thing is that is a lot of sugar.

No, I don't think you are eating a lot. I also eat triscuits at

work, with cheese. I eat jerky ALOT. That probably saves me from

gaining weight since it is fatfree and pure protein. Salty, though.

Aw, ok. I eat some Splenda occassionally. Yeah well blockages or greasy poop,

I'd rather have greasy poop. One of my downfalls is ice cream.

Marta,

I would die without artificial sweeteners!  Am I doomed?  I, too eat yogurt

daily.  I use the low-carb stuff.  It tastes a little chalky, but I'm used to it

now and I actually like it.  I have a real sweet tooth and try to cut down on

the carbs by using the artificial sweeteners.  I do eat the real thing when it

comes to chocolate, though.

I really tend to ignore these types of research because one day things are

Besides, Have you read the information that says that Vitamin C and E in

processed meats are bad for you then I figure I'm screwed ...LOL, because I

love beef jerky, Subway's cold cut combo and BMT sandwiches and tons of

processed meats. I imagine it is like everything else. Natural is better but

limiting things that are not the healthiest for you. It is like Mc D's or Taco

bell. They have healthy meals but when I wasn't Mc D's or taco bell, I want my

greasy fattening burgers. I just don't do it often as a rule. Who wants a salad

from Mc D's.....I can make my own salad at home. Now a Mc Rib?! that is a

different thing...LOL.

Phil,

I make my own in the oven lined with aluminum foil for cleaning

purposes. At low settings with the door cracked it is easy. Here is the

directions I

had on my computer for how to do it in the oven.

Easiest way is to dry the jerky in your oven. You will need a wire rack or

something like that for the jerky to rest on. You want a cookie sheet in the

bottom of your oven to catch the drippings. Set the oven at 140 degrees and

leave the door partially open. It will take six to eight hours to cure the

jerky.

I love jerky, but aren't the nitrites in it bad for us?

Thanks for the info.  I had read that too.  I guess the best thing to do is make

my own so I can control the ingredents.  I'll try Marta's recipe.

Thanks, Vicki, that is good advice. See, in the old days before

Nitrates we had food poisoning. Now we live long enough to have

cancer! You can't win for losing!

Okay, you got me out of my chair.  I went to the pantry and got my jerky out of

the drawer.  I have two brands.  One is Pacific Gold and lists no nitites as you

said.  The other is World Kitchens ( I'm not sure where I bought that one) which

does list sodium nitrite in the ingredients.  So maybe the Costco one is okay.

Bonnie, that's a good question. Another good question is whether all

beef jerky contains nitrites. I'm looking at the label on Pacific Gold

Beef Jerky (from Costco, where else?) and there is no reference to

nitrites. That doesn't mean there aren't any, of course. But the

label says " No Preservatives Added, No Artificial Ingredients " and

nitrites are usually a preservative used in such as lunch meat, hot

dogs and so on.

Bottom Line: I don't know the answer to your question, but it's a good

one.

Hey Guys,

There is a place in Porterville, California if you ever get around there that

has natural jerky. They don't add the sugar or anything to it like the stuff

that you get a Costco. Here's the website, check it out!!!! It is really good

jerky, a little bit more pricey though. However, it's definately worth it.
