My pcp and insurance would not allow me to have the DS until I completed a

stint at another weight loss place where I lost 40 pds on a 600 calorie a day

liquid diet. Hard, yes, but I was determined by that time, as I had gone to a

year of Dr. K's monthly meetings and I knew what I was getting into. I

showed them I was willing to do whatever they required. I also joined Curves to

build some strength. I wasn't able to do all their stuff, but it helped. I

wanted to be in the best shape possible for surgery. I know I make a pain of

myself about saying do what Doc says all the time, but I believed him and I did

what he said and I am living proof that it works.

I just went to my daughters 50th birthday party yesterday and a friend of

hers that knows me, actually 3 of them, from her work, but I have not seen

since I had the DS, came and another friend walked over to put name tags on

them.

They asked if Barbaras mom wasn't coming. She said, she is right there, they

said where, she pointed to me, actually I was the only other woman besides

my SIL there and she is a blonde, and they still asked where again. She said

the woman in the blue blouse. They said, NO WAY!!! They came over and were

amazed. They had to know all about it and I pulled out Dr. K's card that

explained it all to them. They had to know what I could eat, and then when we

ate

and they saw me devour a plate of food and here I was this so much smaller

person eating this huge plate of food, they couldn't believe it. They knew

people

with gastric bypass surgeries and how little they could eat. I told them, I

have a stomach. Makes the difference. I would not let anyone I know have a

gastric bypass if I could help it. The other friend explained to them that I

lost it slowly, which I did, as that is what Dr. K stressed so many times when I

was going to the meetings. So what I am getting at is if you listen to and

do what he says he will guide you to a much healthier and happier person. If

he says come in, he has a reason for saying that. It is not for his good. He

has enough patients. He believes you need something done. Do it. Yes we all

have money woes, but if your health goes in the pits you won't be able to help

yourself or your family anyway. So if you have to go into debt to do what he

says, at least you will be alive to pull yourself out. Don't mess with your

health. You are worth more than a sons text books or a car or anything else.

That goes for any and all of you. That is what got a lot of us in trouble in

the first place, we never put ourselves first. We took care of others and

neglected us. It almost killed us once, don't let it happen again.

Okay, off my soapbox again. Have a good day. Love to all. Pearl

Pearl,

It is not as easy as a long car ride or a tank or two of Gas for me. I

would look at a minimum of 350 for a plane ticket(who knows the final cost?)

from Atl to LAX . It is a 2 hrs drive to ATL, and I cannot drive that far by

myself. I have vision loss at night so I need a driver, not to mention the

meds I take would not allow. So from Atl and to Delano would be a problem. So

add to that cost also someone who would have to miss school/ work and to go

for an undetermined length of time, have an airline ticket and feed and house

them. If my car had not died, and school wasn't about to start I'd have gotten

to make the trip with me but he has to start school, if he doesn't

then he loses his insurance, scholarship, and all. doesn't have

vacation and neither does Tom. The textbooks and the car just the icing on the

cake.

If the money isn't there, it just isn't there....It's that simple. Add to

that the fact that My medicare provider doesn't pay out of state unless it is

an emergency, Any hospital stay is impossible. Can't change the provider

until, January by which time I hope all this will be resolved.

If it were as easy as doctors copays or deductibles I would do whatever

I could, If it were also just swinging a plane ticket with no other costs,

them maybe, but when your talking about the cost of an entire stay, that is

makes it completely out of the question.

Mel, I have heard people talk about Dr. K sending a limo for them to LA

before so that would take care of one problem. You could check with him of

course. There would be no need of someone to come with you that way. Did he say

exactly what he was planning on doing to " tune " you up? Someway they can make

it

a medical emergency that happened while you were in CA if push comes to

shove. I know you have your plate full, what with all is going on with you and

your family, but I am worried that if Doc said to get out here that January may

be too late. In five months your health can go so far in the can, as you well

know, he may not be able to pull you out. That was happened to that Dee, she

put it off, plus she lied to him as I understand it. Sometimes we lie to

ourselves, which is worse even. I know you are having a lot of medical problems

and they are not being met by the docs back there. You can ask Doc if he can

give directions to someone back there, that you cannot come until Jan. and see

what he says, but be prepared for him to tell you what he thinks. I am just

so worried for and about you. You of course have the final say. I just hope

you don't make it your FINAL say.

Love, Pearl
