Guest guest
I take Prilosec so I make sure I take my iron and calcium at least a couple hours before and after. Iron still kills acid but with my acidic stomach and GERD, I need it. I have plenty of acid left over to absorb the vits.......lol Vicki Jo wrote: Marta Great link. Ok... Things like antacids and prilosec are Iron Killers, we shouldn't drink tea because of the tannins, and...we need to watch out for...Phytates which are prominent in wheat and some other cereals. I'm wondering if your sprouted bread contain phytates? lol...I'm not even sure what the heck phytates are! Guest guest
Isn't anything easy about the DS diet? I've been happily eating WW and sprouted wheat bread from time to time, thinking it was a good, healthy choice. Then comes mention of phytates which have an adverse effect on calcium and other minerals. Sheesh! Guest guest
Isn't the first year labs done at 6 months to start then yearly starting with the anniversary? Guest guest
Thanks, Marta. Is there any downside to having my first labs done now (4 months out) as a sort of baseline for future labs? Phil ================================================================================ Re: iron absorption link Phil, Don't worry about it too much. If you did, you would starve yourself and only eat supplements. After one year, when you do your labs, then you will find out if you need to adjust your calcium or other supplements. I have been eating sprouted grain bread since my first year out. It is really a life-saver for me. The benefit of the fiber and sprouting of the grain outweighs any negatives, in my opinion. Guest guest
Jo, Am I supposed to be taking iron, too? Maybe this surgery is just too complicated for me. (This is a fine time to figure that out.......). Phil ================================================================== Re: iron absorption link Phil No worries...just take your iron on an empty stomach and enjoy a phyates or two the rest of the day. Guest guest
You are right Mel, they are done at six months, then yearly thereafter. Pearl In a message dated 7/17/2008 12:45:04 A.M.
