Hi Di and others from Sue,

You asked....Which enzymes etc...( This post has detail...and resources).

My husband has had IBS for years prior and I 've had rectal surgery almost 30 years ago for a fissure when I was in my early 30's... but now we are 99.9% free of bowel and MALABSOPTION problems..thanks to this wonderful group.:)

For us LYSINE, TAURINE, and BILE increasers like LIV Amend etc.....have been EVEN MORE important than ENZYMES alone.

WHILE we realize AVOIDING certain foods and following one of 4 diets ( LOD, SCD,BED, & GFCFSF ) can be VERY BENEFICIAL-----

We have chosen to do what's below.... that has allowed us to eat more varied foods

and minimized our leaky gut problems and has helped FAT and CA absorption TREMENDOUSLY.

( But Knowing these diets is important so we know which need addressing..)

Two years ago ..Vera kept talking about LYSINE,... many times and since Then it has been a Godsend for

the CORNERSTONE of OUR good Absorption & Digestion...( and viral fighting).

LYSINE does the following:

1.LYSINE Stimulates secretion of GASTRIC JUICES and production of ENZYMES.

( We muscle test needing large amounts of lysine while eating carbs, oxalate, and CA foods.)

If we have ENOUGH LYSINE ..then we DON"T usually need our Essential ENZYMES from Natural Sources tm.

( And Lysine does MUCH more than enzymes do.)

2.Lysine Promotes bone growth as it aids in ABSORPTION of CA.

3.Lysine is Reported to inhibit growth and replication of HERPES simplex and Epstein Barr viruses (EBV).

4.Lysine Is also fundamental in creating the non-protein amino L-Carnitine which improves FAT METABOLISM, increases energy and improves stress

5. Lysine helps prevent seizures...

Two essential amino acids, L-lysine and L-histidine, in five types of experimental seizures. K.K. BOROWICZ, M. ŚWIĄDER, R. KAMIŃSKI, H. KUŹNIAR, Z. KLEINROK, S.J. CZUCZWAR. Pol. J. Pharmacol., 2000, 52, 345-352.

6. Lysine also helps with collagen formation and much more.

NEXT VERY IMPORTANT DIGESTIVE/ ABSORPTION AIDs ARE =BILE INCREASERS

1. TAURINE is HUGE for helping

Here are 4 sources noting the benefits of Taurine:

1.st source.= from an Autism website...

Taurine. Taurine helps to prevent seizures. Taurine helps the BODY FORM BILE. It also helps the cells detoxify. Sometimes taurine is elevated if the body isn't using it properly. If high, it is not prudent to add in more. However, for most of the autistic, the taurine levels are low. Yeast overgrowth depletes taurine. Unless instructed differently by your doctor, start with only a small amount of taurine (eg. 50 mg instead of 500 mg) and allow the body time to get used to this supplement. Give the taurine with a meal, because taurine will increase stomach acid secretion. Taurine will also alter the balance of intestinal flora, for better or worse. This is another reason to start with only a small amount. It is difficult to accurately measure taurine in the blood. You will find that the test results show a rather wide range of "normal" for taurine. Although the blood tests are helpful, you may have to place more emphasis on how the body reacts to this amino acid than on the blood tests.

2. This list comes from the website at the bottom of the list

Taurine--What it does:

Helps absorb fats and fat-soluble vitamins

Regulates heartbeat and helps with cardiac arrhythmias

Maintains cell membrane stability

Helps prevent brain cells from being overactive

Helps with Congestive Heart Failure

Helps with Diabetes

Helps with High Blood Pressure

It is a building block for other Amino Acids

It is a key component in bile (needed for digestion of fats)

Helps in the control of serum cholesterol

Used for edema and hypoglycemia

Vital for the proper utilization of sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium

Used to treat anxiety, poor brain function and seizures

May benefit Down's Syndrome and muscular dystrophy

Used occasionally in breast cancer treatment

Deficiency signs: cardiac arrhythmias, disorders of platelet formation, intestinal problems, yeast overgrowth, stress (physical and emotional), zinc deficiency, excessive consumption of alcohol.

Note: Alcoholism and diabetes both increase the need for Taurine

Amino Acids and Best Bet Foods

Aids in liver detoxification by neutralizing ammonia ... may be a result of oxygen deficiency , so breath! ... Needed for the synthesis of Taurine and Cysteine

3rd ---source....says= SlEEP AID

Its a nervous system inhibitor, meaning it slows down and discourages neurons from firing. This can be used with GABA as a natural sleeping aid, to promote a deeper, more restful sleep. Taurine also protects from irregular heart beats, and because it slows down and stabilizes the nervous system, has been used in treating anxiety and epileptic seizures. Can also be used for athletes who need focus and concentration. When taken with caffeine, it can prevent the "jitters"

Taurine's health benefits

At times of extreme physical exertion, the body no longer produces the required amounts of taurine, which results in a relative deficiency. Taurine acts as a metabolic transmitter and is also known to have a detoxifying effect.

Taurine also plays an important role in the brain. Some researchers believe that taurine can be a beneficial dietary supplement for people who suffer from BIPOLAR disorder (manic depression).

Taurine and heart disease

In Japan, taurine is used to treat ischemic heart disease as well as certain heart arrhythmias. People who suffer from congestive heart failure are reported to have benefited from taurine therapy - in the amount of 3 to 5 grams per day - and taurine may also be helpful in the treatment of both hypertension and high cholesterol.

Taurine and type 1 diabetes

Studies (1) have demonstrated that taurine acts as a potent antioxidant and improves drug-induced type 1 diabetes mellitus in laboratory rats, by combating the destructive effect oxygen free radicals have on the pancreas. Moreover, the second mechanism by which taurine improves insulin resistance is through an increase in the excretion of cholesterol via conversion to bile acid.

Because type 1 diabetes is so devastating if not treated properly, taurine in the amount of 500 mg 1 to 3 times a day is generally a good idea in these cases.

Studies (2) have shown that even in infants, taurine insufficiency results in reduced bile acid secretion, reduced fat absorption and reduce liver function, all of which can be reversed by supplementing the diet with taurine.

These studies also support the theory that taurine is essential for proper development and growth. Consequently, taurine has been added to most commercially-available infant formulas.

Taurine and hepatitis

In a double-blind, randomized study (3), acute hepatitis patients were given taurine in the amount of 4 grams 3 times a day after meals. The participants in the taurine study experienced significant decreases in bilirubin, and total bile acids.

Taurine and alcoholism

Taurine has been shown to be useful in treating people with alcohol dependency. In people undergoing alcohol withdrawal, taurine given at 1 gram 3 times per day for 7 days resulted in significantly fewer psychotic episodes when compared to people who were taking a placebo (4).

Yet another study (5) involving over 3,000 alcohol dependent people with who were given taurine at similar doses showed that taurine is more effective than placebo at preventing alcohol relapse. The effectiveness of this taurine supplement appeared to be dependent on the dose given.

How safe is taurine?

Human and animal studies (6) have demonstrated overwhelmingly that taurine is a safe - and beneficial - supplement. In my opinion, by far the lowest prices on the internet for high quality taurine can be found here.

The next bile increaser is Liver support...

Like LIV Amend..form www.bodyecology.com See below for review of benefits & Q & A.

Liv Amend

The liver and bowels are the body's main organs for cleansing the blood and tissue of toxins. A congested liver is reflected in the skin and the eyes. Keeping the liver decongested is important to maintain overall well-being. Body Ecology’s LivAmend™ increases bile flow, supporting a healthy liver and improving bowel elimination. This unique formula combines Artichoke, Sarsparilla, and Wasabi japonica extracts.

Q. What if I do not have a problem with constipation, what other benefits will I get from this product? A. The liver is the largest filtering organ in our body. It has over one thousand "jobs" to perform including processing the drugs, chemicals, pesticides, inhaled toxins, mercury, aluminum, and many other metals. It works diligently trying to protect from the incredibly toxic environment we are currently living in by storing these toxins inside itself instead of allowing them out into the cells. Our liver does this to the best of its ability -- hoping to have a chance to someday release them. But sadly, for most of us, it never does get this opportunity to release toxins (through the bile) into the colon where they would leave our body in our stool. A lifelong accumulation of these toxins leads to untimely death, disease and early aging. (Even newborn babies are born with toxic livers and I am finding the autistic children I am helping, really do well on Liv-Amend. We recommend that their parents take it too). Liv-Amend increases bile flow, which in turn cleanses the liver. The secret to not aging is to keep this organ clean and healthy and free of toxins that destroy and debilitate. As people age bile naturally decreases. Alcoholics and people who take medicinal and recreational drugs usually have extremely low levels of bile so toxins accumulate in their livers quickly. Often constipation is caused by a "jammed", congested liver. Liv-Amend helps get the liver "flowing" again. Many people are thrilled to find such a simple way to end constipation caused by their congested livers

,,,with a bit of gat butter and p butter on it? I am open to revisiting as a trial enzymes...which would help with the digestion of this specific food? Maybe I gave the wrong type or simething too strong...we did Trienza before and would up with constipation as I was told we would by the NY guy....but we may hjave used the wrong one. Also his rec that Matt eat white rice well cooked is a far cry from the rice cake we are actually able to get in him...sigh. :/ So - any suggestions as perhaps enzymes would help Matt digest this item...otherwise we are going to have to pull them and he loves them. THanks.
