He knows what I should take as a DS patient. He knows what we absorb and such. I was recently prescribed Boniva for instance as a preventative for osteoporosis by one of my other docs, but I wrote Dr. K that day and that afternoon I had a short note that said that it was okay to take it. I know that some medicines don't work so well for us. So I think that if we have any questions that we should send him a short note and I know in my case he has always that same day answered me with a short note saying yes or no, or whatever. So don't go try second guessing him, send your labs to him and then give him time to see them, then ask him in a short note what he thinks. He is very good about answering. Just don't go on and on, as he has a LOT of us to answer to. If it is an emergency type thing, call the office. That is what he is there for. He would much rather you call before getting into an emergency situation of course. Sometimes that can't be helped, but we are the ones that in the end are responsible for taking care of our bodies. If we read and go by the well written book that he gives us before the surgery and listen to what we are told, for the most part we will be okay. Don't listen to others who are trying to sell you something or anyone else, Dr. K is the one who put our insides together the way they are and he is the one that knows what he did and what is good for us. Off my soapbox. Just don't open a can of worms before you even get to the fishing hole. You are going to be okay. Pearl **************Gas prices getting you down? I looked at Boniva's info and it is almost identical to other meds of this type but specifically mentioned not to use withVit D defeciency along with the normal calcium. I guess he is still evolving just as we are as they learn more about this surgery and the problems/ advantages related to it. I think that your caution is great, I'd rather err on the side of caution than to live(or not live) with the consequences. Guest guest
Mel, I think maybe the reason he said okay on the Boniva is that my calcium and Vit D and in fact all my labs are all okay. My other doc did a bone scan and said I was down just a little and it was just to keep me from getting osteoporosis. That is what I told doc and he said okay. The other doc did blood work before prescribing it and I gave doc the numbers also. So maybe that was the deciding factor. I know he decides for each of us differently, but he needs us to provide him with lab work so he can help us. I do keep him in the loop on all I do. My pcp still refers to me as having a gastric bypass even though I have a huge packet fastened inside my folder with all kinds of info about the DS in it. I correct him each time, but he still says it. So, I know he doesn't know beans about what my insides are like and not really willing to learn as I am his only patient with it. So I still say, let Dr. K be your guide. He has led us this far on our fabulous trip, he won't lead us wrong. Pearl **************Gas prices getting you down?
