Hi Marta,

You can count me in on the vitamins if they are fairly reasonable.

Great idea... thanks for thinking of us!

Marta.

This sounds good.  I would be interested if they aren't really expensive.

Thanks for thinking of us.

Is there any interest in obtaining good quality vitamins at a

reasonable price? I am planning to apply for a wholesale account with

a vitamin production company if there is enough interest. I do not

want to make money at this, but I have concerns about the quality of

products out there after doing some research so would do this as a

service to the group, if there is an interest. Since I am a physician,

I can probably qualify for an account. Let me know.

I think I would ask the docs I am dealing with about dosages and where

my labs should be. I mean they are supposed to be the experts and knows more

about our bodies and the surgeries we have had than a person who doesn't even

know us. As far as labs I would think that with B12 at above the normal

level is good enough and wouldn't increase it without a doctor telling me to go

higher.

From my own experiences and what I have seen with RNY pts, you are

lucky to have a normal b 12 level. Mine before my revision was so low the docs

worried about neurological damage. This can occur with low levels. On the other

hand there doesn't appear to be a problem with too much b12 but why fix

something that isn't broken? If the level is normal why does she think you need

to double it? I mean she'd have to give me a good reason.

Seems to me you had the right idea with asking Dee, although you need to

call the office more than likely as She isn't constant on this board. I mean

they are the ones who should be dictating the levels we need and know best

how to get there. Some of us can manipulate our labs here and there to get

them normal but as far as interpretations of normal, anything that isn't within

normal limits should be addressed by the doc and not by someone trying to

sell you vitamins. Of course she is going to tell you to buy more, and maybe

she

is right but I'd ask the doc first.......

Well, I am going to try to get them at wholesale. Let's see if I can.

I don't allow anyone to push a business here and don't want anyone to

think I am doing that myself, but I did some research and find the

prices pretty high and worry about the quality. I don't think much of

anything is produced in the USA under strict supervision so it makes me

worry about ordering things willy-nilly.

I don't even know how I will find time for this. lol

You should contact Dr.K's office directly for his advice. Dee won't be

online any longer so won't know you are asking her questions here.

Vitalady is a self-educated RNY patient who runs a website and gives

medical advice to people and sells them vitamins.

Do you mean me, Jim? Sure, there is powdered calcium available. Did

you try Cal100? IT is good in Orange Juice.

Where do I purchase it, Marta? I'll try it. The osteo has my teeth so bad I

can't chew the tablets; I broke half a tooth off yesterday trying to chew

one.

You could suck your calcium, old man. I ordered a case from the

pharmacy where I used to work. Any pharmacy can order them.

Okayyy, I am W. BTW. So Dee won't be online, but she still works for Dr.

K, no? Can I still send her a direct email or should I direct it to Dr. K?

Actually Dee never answered the very first email I sent her last year, so I just

end up calling her instead. As far as I know ,and my friends on obesity

help.com, we all value vitalady's insight and knowledge about vitamins so, of

course, I went to her for advice. The way I understand it, most nutritionists

know squat about vitamins for DSers', usually just give out the info for RnYers.

I trust that Vitalady knows more than a good portion of the people about

what/how much vitamins are good for DSers. IMHO.

To one who is trained scientifically, the vitalady is promoting

misinformation. I quote from her site: " We cannot and do not give

medical advice, nor are we affiliated with any medical organization. "

And yet they advise people on how much to take, what to take. I

have heard that the people there do not understand that the DS is

different than the RNY, but that is second hand. I have never called

or contacted them, just heard from others and read what they put on

their site.

I always advise people to follow their doctor's instructions, as I

do. That is who I trust, not an untrained person who is trying to

sell me something.

Well, Vitalady () seems to be right on with everyone's vitamins on

obesity help.com. Have you ever frequented that site, the DS forum there?

Everyone's numbers are up to par who follow 's advice.Naturally, she

will state she is not an educated " medical license " person. But again, there are

very few nutritionists who know about the vitamins that DSers should take, and

most doctors know just as much, nada, yet comes up with the right

numbers for everyone, so in my book she is the most knowledgeable one about

vitamins I have met so far. I will send an email to Dr. K himself and see what

he knows. Thanx for responding.

I have to agree with you. When I called Dee with my symptoms she told me to call

the

Vitalady. I had never heard of her before but I was ready to do anything. I

called her she

had me read my labs to her I told her my symptoms . She suggested what vitamins

to take

and told me in about 6-8 weeks I would feel better. I got her Vitamins and in 6

weeks I

was feeling great. A friend of mine was having problems after his DS I called

him he went

and saw her (he lives in Seattle) He had been off work for a year she looked at

his labs put

him on vitamins 6 weeks later he was back at work. The endo had him on the wrong

vit D3

and other vitamins. His endo said whatever your doing just keep doing it.. She

works with

alot of DSers she is a RYN distal which means she also malabsorbs. She really

helped me

and I speak and E-mail her often. She just attended the meetingi in Washington

DC where

Dr K just returned from. She may not be a doctor but she has made this her life.

Her

vitamins are priced no higher than any other vitamin co. Granted her shipping

seems high.

UPCAL D is a really good powdered calcium citrate 227 servings per container You

can

purhase at www.globalhp.com or call 1- it's about $11.00 a can I buy

4

cans at a time thats 50.00 with shipping. That lasts me 7 months, Cost per month

8,00

It taste like pixie sticks. you can put it in your mouth or any other liquid.

Dr K s aware of the vitamins She suggested. He has no problem with them.

She believes you tweak your vitamins according to your labs. That is why she

thinks

seperate vitamins are better than vitamns all in one. i

I am having difficulty comprehending the issue here. I seriously doubt that

any member of this list would call and ask the salesperson at Wal-Mart to

diagnose/prescribe the correct vitamins for him/her

When one telephones VitaLady one deals with a sales person -- Period.

My " son " is as high as it is possible to rise in the pharmacy world without

a medical degree. But even he, when asked medicine questions, always says

" You have to ask your doctor because it is illegal to give medical advice

without a license. " He says that to me, too!

Dr. K is an authority on the DS/Revision and all that the surgeries

encompass and our vitamin needs. We have placed our lives into his care. Why

would we bypass him for a sales person? No one would take advice from anyone

except Dr. K. Dr. K knows each of our bodies; the salespeople do not.

I am not disrespecting VitaLady. Her " right on " diagnosis is about the same

average as an athlete winning any given event ten times in a row. The

exception in this case is if one doesn't win, one may die.
