Guest guest
Bonnnie, I think me and jo have both had this discussion. My sister, Both the full sister and the 1/2 sister are both non sleepers, Then when we did finally sleep we tend to hibernate. My step momma told me once that my son was a and she could tell because he was afraid to go to sleep as a baby anywhere but home, like he was going to miss out on something. I can remember as a child my parents up playing cards and all, and Me sitting in the hallway listening to them having a good time and some where later in the night either get caught or go to sleep out of boredom. My Step sister, Who does not share a parent with me is the other need of the extreme. You do not call her house after 8pm at night because she WILL not be up. Both my 1/2 sister(share a father) and my full sister are night owls. I wouldn't hesitate to go on a trip where there would be extended driving because I wouldn't have to worry about them falling asleep at the wheel. When i worked I never hesitated to work double shifts(10-12 hrs ) because Working 2 -10 hours shifts were ok as long as I got a 2 or 3 hours sleep in between just to lie down. As long as I was busy. When the fibro kicked in the sleep problem became worse. I would lie there in the morning after a 12 -14 hrs shift and sometime shave to go back in to do 3pm to 7am shift and lie there knowing that I needed to sleep and that I was going to hurt worse later if the sleep didn't come. I know many days when lunch time would come and I had to be a work at 3 pm and not have slept a wink. So yeah, I think that we are hard wired to not sleep as much genetically. If it was environmental then my 1/2 sister would be more like my Step sister because they were raised in the same house. i had a sleep study several years ago. It showed lack of deep sleep(the restorative sleep) It showed alpha wave intrusions every time my body started to go into the deep sleep. They told me that the alpha was pain usually. And that I was being woke up, although not completely every time I tried to enter the deeper levels of sleep. So basically they spent all that money to tell me that I wasn't sleeping well because of pain....Duh! But again where does the other traits come in? I have always wanted to sleep in the day and be awake at night. Even now while Tom is on night shifts, i still just sleep when he does because I feel better that way. I just take my ambien in the early morning hours and sleep on his schedule. When I ran out of Ambien once, I was on a sleep for 2hrs awake for 30 hr cycle. The only bad problem with being on a day sleep pattern is when you live in a one horse town like Gadsden they roll up the sidewalks at 9pm and NOTHING is open but wal mart....LOL. Do you know what kind of freaks inhabit wal mart at 3 am?...LOL. Mel- In a message dated 7/19/2008 9:44:44 P.M. Guest guest
Mel, This is interesting. I've never talked to anyone about the family connection before. Thanks for the insight.
