ANNOUCEMENT: Submissions Request

" WITH THE POWER OF EACH VOICE "

Twenty-plus years ago, a group of diverse women with disabilities came together

to

write an anthology entitled, " With the Power of Each Breath. " This book

spoke to the many issues facing all with dis abilites; the shared experiences of

the struggles of daily living as well as issues relating to sexuality,

employment, chronic illness and discrimination. The book was published by Cleis

Publishing, and is still used in colleges across the globe who offer

disability studies curriculum and classes.

The power of this work continues to challenge our society to better understand

the needs and concerns of people with disabilities and to move over and make

room at societies table for all.

Several years ago, several women in and around New Mexico began to explore the

idea of writing another book and take it one step further. The idea of " With

the Power of Each Voice " was born. This book will begin

to explore the journey towards personal power that women with disabilities have

engendered over the years by speaking out

about civil and human rights.

With that in mind, we are seeking short stories, poetry, speeches, works of art

from

women around the world to continue this importantnarrative and chronical=2

0the journey of these struggles.

We are asking women/girls with any and all disabilities submit entries by

December 30, 2008. Let us come together to explore how we have taken back our

lives, flourished in our relationships as well as sharing our struggles.

Share the Journey of Personal Power and Strength !
