Guest guest
Jo, Your like me. If I were a dinosaur, I'd be a T Rex hands down. Prefer meat to almost anything(although I do have my spells). Like right now, I usually dislike peanuts. But I have found this Wal mart brand cajun mix that has toffee and spicy peanuts. I have eat it for weeks now(not huge amounts but some every night). Tonite The family went to get pizza and While I like pizza, there is too much bread for me and we stopped and got me a couple of taco's on the way home. I take bread like other stuff, in spells. Tom and the kids gripe because I go to the grocery store and I forget to get bread...The funny part is I will buy ham, turkey and cheese....All the stuff I like and forget the bread. You will find people at my house scraping the end pieces of loaves for sandwiches because I forget. Oh, And have any of you noticed how expensive string cheese has gotten? I blame Marta for this habit, LOL. The bad part is my 18 yo son has acquired the habit(at least it is only cheese..LOL. ) and do yo know how many of those things a 18yo 6'2 inch boy can put away? And to add to your message about protein. I remember from nutrition and nursing that protein as a rule is tasteless. It has a bland flavor that by it's self isn't too good tasting. All the flavor from protein comes either from Fat mostly in natural forms or by artificial means in supplements. That is why a thick fatty piece of steak tastes better as a rule than a lean piece of steak, or chicken tastes better when cooked with the skin. What we add depends on the calorie count. Reading labels tells a lot. I drank a lot of slimfast protien in my early post op days but I used it as a meal replacement. I can't imagine trying to drink a couple of them now on top of my usual calorie intake, I'd probably be huge. On the other hand if your looking for a meal replacement that is perfect for us and tastes better than most, I love the slimfast. I've even thought about trying to replace a few meals with them in an attempt to get below 200 but so far with everything going on I't is too easy to eat fast food(My worst downfall!) Guest guest
Jo, Great and provoking thoughts on protein; I don't really think about what I eat until the scale tells me I need too. I know I need to think about my protein intake because I still love junk food. I am also an emotional eater, so the last few weeks have been filled with lots of candy and junk food. I am so happy to be home and away from the vending machine that was constantly calling my name at the hotel. Gotta go, my banana is calling me! Renie Renie 5-31-05 Dr. Marchesini, Brazil Protein..SlimFast..Atkins...Food for thought. ================================= Hi guys I want to start out by saying I'm not putting down using Atkins or slimfast shakes as a source of protein. They have their place. But I want to remind everyone that those type of shakes are meant as " meal replacements " and not simply as a protein supplement. I personally gave up on trying to use a protein supplement by the time I was two months post-op. I " ate " my protein....but I was a DAMN good PROTEIN eater. Not alot of anything else except protein. A meal looked like: Chicken thigh, deviled egg, piece of cheese....Protein, protein, protein. I currently " easily " consume 150-200 grams of protein a day...I'm a carnivore! Ok...enough from me.
