Guest guest
Oh, man. (((((((Judy)))))))) I hate that scary feeling where you give them meds and don't know what to expect. You wonder if you are making things better or worse, and nobody really seems to know. :-( When Josh started taking the Celexa this time, it took quite a while (a few months) before we found a dosage that make the thoughts mellow out. He also got uninhibited and spaced out until his body adapted. Each increase would bring that back a little bit, until his body adapted again. Because we homeschool, I could see what it was doing to him. He would sometimes lay his head down on his books and say, I can't focus. It did pass with time. Since you only added it a couple of weeks ago, I wonder if that could be part of the problem. Josh is on 60mg of Celexa, but he's soon to be 16, is close to 6 foot, and weighs 200 pounds. I don't know what would be considered a normal dose for a 6 year old. I know when Josh was 11(?) and on Celexa, he was on 20mg. After a year of that, it had to be upped to 40mg, because he had grown. I don't know if that's helpful because Josh was never on Seroquel, but it sounds like the only new addition is the Celexa. I hope things improve quickly, Hon. Thoughts and prayers for you, BJ > > Hi Everyone, > As you know, my dd(11)has the intrusive thought OCD,which we are managing , but my son(6) has really bad horrific thoughts. Guest guest
, My son has been having more and more trouble getting to sleep at night- he missed half a day of school yesterday because I let him sleep in- he was just exhausted! What is the tranquilizing med that has helped your son? Guest guest
Judy - So far the Lexapro is not working - he is on 5 ml and due to increase to 6 in a week. We are on a wait list for a ped. pschy but have been waiting for about 3 months now. - I have heard of others giving Melatonin as well and have heard nothing but praise for it. > > > > > > > > > > Hi Everyone, > > > > > As you know, my dd(11)has the intrusive thought OCD,which we are > > > > managing , but my son(6) has really bad horrific thoughts. Guest guest
My son has ADHD and OCD. He was never able to " shut his mind off " at bedtime. I tried pillow speakers and this worked really well to help him relax. You can find these at www.pillow-speaker.com. As he got older (he is 9 now) he needed more. The neurologist that diagnosed his OCD gave him 25mg of Amitriptyline (he took half at first and is now to one pill) to help him sleep at night. WHAT A MIRACLE. This medication is an old med. that was given for OCD and is now given for headaches and some other stuff. All I know is this really calms him at night and helps him relax. I give it to him 1 hour before bedtime, which is at 9:30, and there is no fuss. He is able to relax, get good sleep and wake up feeling great. One side affect is it makes him hungry and thirsty. I have healthy snacks available should he need to put something in his stomach before he falls asleep. Hope this helps.
