HI Amy:

We have used RDI for 1.5 years with our 4.5 year old

daughter and have seen very steady changes in her eye

contact, referencing to parents and adults, her play

skills, some imagination, and a reduction in her

hyperactive movement and inattention during play and

structured activities. She also does not stray from us

in public anymore and looks for our facial expressions

for emotional cues. All of this is new in 1.5 years. I

can't say for sure that RDI is completely responsible,

but is surely a big part. My daughter received ABA and

a variety of other therapies throughout that time

period. Still, it is worth the time and effort once

you outline what social and emotional changes you want

to see.

We never went to the parent conference, but instead

bought the DVD series done by Dr. Gutstein from

the Connections Center inHouston. Can get it online

from connectionscenter.org. He explains the whole

rationale, theory and the process. Then you'll need to

find a professional RDI consultant (our choice) unless

you want to tackle the therapy on your own, with the

help of other parents thru one of the listserves about

RDI. The available listserves are changing as we

speak, so maybe the home page of Connections Center

can help.

If you have any other questions, you are welcome to

e-mail me privately.

Sincerely,

Lyn
