Guest guest
My son, 10 yrs of age, has been on ADHD med Metadate 30 mg for nearly a year. When I picked up his last RX they said that he had to be seen and have the Parent/teacher forms filled out before they could give him another script. This morning, his meds disappeared so when we went to the office he was not mediacted. His teacher had the same responses almost on the form, there is a big difference when he is not on his meds, its obvious that much. When she walked him she asked if he had done this before, and so on. I couldnt find the right words at first just that he was too happy, singing, going ahhh floating on cloud nine, happy isnt a nad thing as I explained but he was euphoric. He only does this if he misses a dose. She said that it looked like a component of Bi Polar, the euphoric stage being a manic episode. She said his meds were more than likely helping to control this symptom. She said to see how it goes going up 40 mg instead of 30 with possibility of adding another med somewhere aliong the way. When on his meds, all fire and brimstone breaks loose and theres chaos until bedtime. He intentionally riles up our dog, runs thru the house like a chicken with head cut off, talks of very disturbing things when he doesnt get his way. When hes down he is rock bottom down, wants to die, feel worthless and no one loves him. 1 yr ago his former psychiatrist mentioned Bi Polar but it usually doesnt become evident until adolescense to adulthood. I did not know what mania was or that this was what was happening when he was on a high. He will be sooo high it looks like hes on drugs. His diagnoses are PDD-NOS, ADHD, and a duplication of the short arm of his X chromosome. Could it be that this is Bi Polar and maybe the other was misdiagnosed because the docs were unaware of the mania episodes. His psychiatrist stopped seeing him before I got these diagnoses due to nonpayment from Peachstate. He will begin seeing her again, in July when his membership starts with amerigroup.
