If it is appropriate for your child to have ABA, then the school is

required to train and pay for your child to receive ABA. Our school

system trained the speech and OT therapists and two parapros in ABA

and they also pay for a BCBA to supervise our program.'

Advocate for what is effective for your child. The Individual with

Disabilities Education Act requires the school to provide services!!!

I'm in Hall county and they have provided similiar services and training. They even paid for me to go to the training class for 2 days along with my son's teacher. However, this year has been really dissapointing for other reasons. But the bottom line is, they do have to provide ABA if your child requires it but it's still hard to get high quality teachers and parapros that are properly trained in ABA. With Autism on the rise, there should be an ABA classroom at every elementary school and the children should be divided up according to their degree of dissability. Anyway, the services are there...... Sherri

What training course did you go to? Do you remember who taught it?Would love to do that.In Fulton County we have had ABA in our school. We live in Alpharetta and we have friends who receive ABA from their schools who also live in the Alpharetta, Roswell area.I'm in Hall county and they have provided similiar services and training. In Hall County, the county has a contract with Coby Lund's company at IBS. Ben Weeks would come out twice a month to monitor Jake's progress with his teacher and we would meet with him once every 6 weeks or so. The ABA has been so great for my Jake but the classroom was not set up to accomodate his needs for the individual DTT sessions. In the fall, they will have Jake in a much better situation where he will be able to get the DTT sessions that he needs, however, I think that we are going to send him to Keystone (which is owned by Coby Lund and his wife, Janet). I couldn't begin to tell you how impressed both my husband and I have been with Ben Weeks.....he is amazing! Amazing really doesn't even describe him!!!!! I met Coby at the training class that I went to and I was impressed with him as well. And when I met Ann (she will be the director at Keystone), I thought "wow, these people are great!" I just know in my

heart that Keystone is where Jake needs to be. Financially it will be a great struggle but I think we can do it. Getting him there and back everyday will be a nightmare but I'm willing to suffer through traffic for my Jake! Anyway, I could never say enough in words to describe Ben, Coby and Ann.....you would just have to meet them to understand how special they are! And I would never say anything bad about the school system in Hall County. I know people have their horror stories with their children's schools, but I just don't have any horribly bad stories. I realize that there are bad teachers and coordinators out there but for the most part, I feel that the school system does a great job to provide for our kids and I'm not putting Jake at Keystone because Hall county is not providing......I know that I can get the most for Jake at Keystone. Some parents may look down at me for not fighting harder, but I'm doing

what I think is best for my kid and wasting time fighting is wasting time that Jake doesn't have. Anyway, sorry to get off subject, but any parent out there that has their kids in ABA services at school should ask to be sent to a training class at their next IEP. It is really worth it and it will help everyone to follow the same principles of ABA both day and night which is better for the child. I have been so impressed with myself when I've changed a behavior of Jake's through ABA principles.....I always tell Ben about my success. Hope this helps, Sherri

One more thing, if your school won't provide you with a training session, I am pretty sure you can go to www.ibs.cc to find out when they are having a course. But you really want to use the company that your school uses because sometimes the principles vary slightly from company to company. Sherri

SherriThank you very much. I apologize I do not know where my head was when I read your post yesterday. For some reason I thought you were talking about something completely different.I know Coby and Janet very well. The have been wonderful for my son and have done great things in my son's school. They are the best at helping with IEP's and now my wife and I are very comfortable going into them and getting the best for our son. We actually moved to Alpharetta to work with them. I took a tour of Keystone last month and I was very impressed. My wife and I are working on a project with the Coby, Janet and the IBS team that we think will be awesome for schools and parents. My wife and I are also forming a non proft (hopefully it will be accepted by November) to raise money for scholarships at Keystone and other schools. I will keep you in the loop. Thanks again for the feedback and sorry that my head was out of it when I read your last post. In Hall County, the county has a contract with Coby Lund's company at IBS. Hello Garrett,

My son will enter Kindergarten this fall in Alpharetta. I noticed that your post stated that you are also in Alpharetta with a School that offers ABA. Can you tell me what schools in Alpharetta offer ABA? We are zoned to New Prospect Elementary.

My husband and I pretty irritated at this point as we agreed have a full evaluation under the Fulton County Special Needs program in March and they are dragging their feet. As we prepare for what will eventually lead to an IEP we are looking to hiring a consultant. Who would you recommend?

Also, I read the messages religiously; you seem to have a lot of good info. Thanks for sharing!
