Help, please! Valtrex and persistent croupy cough

I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with this:

My 34-lb, 4-year-old son is on Day 20 of Valtrex 250 mg 2x/day and

Diflucan 100 mg once/day. Shortly after starting Valtrex (~Day 3) he

developed a croupy cough. (Two months prior to starting Valtrex; he

had actual croup [fever, etc.] and a tough time losing the croup

cough--he needed oral steroids to finally lose it.)

Could Valtrex have stirred up the latent croup virus in him? The

coughing is so bad now, that we are considering taking him off of the

Valtrex/Diflucan, as I've read on the Valtrex site that a possible

side effect of Valtrex is coughing. He coughs throughout the entire

day and worse at bedtime.

We took him to his ped last week and she said his chest, ears, nose,

throat are totally clear. She wasn't concerned about it (?)

A side note, he is currently battling a cutaneous staph infection on

his legs. The fun never ends...

Your thoughts are appreciated!

Daphne
