Guest guest
, I found that early I liked Slimfast protein shakes. As it is intended to be a meal replacement the calories are in the drink so I used it when the ick factor was making my tummy knot up. I ate a lot of eggs, deviled eggs made a big punch and the albumin is pure protein. I found a tasteless protein powder and put a little in almost anything. Lots of beans and cheese from taco bell. Adding a little powdered protein and it was a pack. Tuna and chicken salad. I also got a vanilla supplement that is used for body builders called whey protein by body fortress and mixed some of it in that bolthouse vanilla chai protein drink and got that and still do when I think my protein needs a boost(swelling in ankles). I hope this helps a little bit of extra protein here and there adds up. Small amounts often works wonders. I think I might go fix a drink now...LOL. Mel In a message dated 12/5/2008 6:40:42 P.M. Guest guest
Oh, I found to that I loved cottage cheese but got tired of it fast. If you add a small amount of sugar free jello (dry) to the cottage cheese to taste, you can vary the flavors and it is something different. I loved lime, strawberry and orange but the options are almost endless. Mel In a message dated 12/5/2008 6:40:42 P.M. Guest guest
I have to laugh at this because Tom blames Marta and you guys for my expensive string cheese habit. has discovered it and if you think it is bad when you buy it for yourself, imagine how much a 6 foot 3 inch 18 yo boy can put away. Do any of you have to hide your " good stuff " ?? Mel In a message dated 12/5/2008 7:53:39 P.M. Central Standard Time, moobabies@... writes: String cheese was a big favorite of mine early post-op. I'd play with the cheese trying to " string " it as small as I could for each bit. I could eat a whole string cheese this way because I ate it slowly. **************Make your life easier with all your friends, email, and favorite sites in one place. Try it now. Guest guest
Congrats on having surgery. The next couple months are going to be a bit difficult. Finding ways to eat that will sit right on the tummy is a huge problem and just when you think you have it under-control your taste will change and you feel like you are back at square one. But Time does heal and it does get better and easier. Cottage cheese and yogurt were my two " go to foods " . I'd eat them together and by themselves. Eggs cooked in many different ways can be great and many things cooks ahead. The protein in Eggs are very " available " to us so they are always a good choice. Make deviled eggs with crackers..how about a frittata, a quiche, omelets with loads of melted cheese. Then how about one of my favorites....and egg/potato salad. Basically make your favorite egg or pasta salad but put in very little potato/pasta and put in tons of eggs. It creates a protein base side-dish that helps to change it up a bit. Do something like 6- 8 eggs to one potato. String cheese was a big favorite of mine early post-op. I'd play with the cheese trying to " string " it as small as I could for each bit. I could eat a whole string cheese this way because I ate it slowly. When you are ready for meats...choose juicy meats, meats with gravy, Dark chicken meat, fish, shrimps, sushi....yum! Red meats and pork and meats cooked well done will sit Heavier on your tummy and you will eat less. Light meats like fish and shrimps will be light on your tummy and you will eat more. Eat tiny bits at a time and chew well. I found and so have others that sometimes ending a meal by eating a lemon wedge will aide in digestion and foods won't sit as heavy on your tummy. (something to keep in mind during the next few months) Be willing to try new foods. You may like something that you couldn't stand before. An example...I hated yogurt before DS...I love it now. My mom who is a little over a year post-op will now eat Shrimp once in a while, where she wouldn't touch it before DS. Add new foods to your diet slowly and remember that if something doesn't work for you this week...give it some time and try it again. Things change...try to enjoy the rollercoaster ride you are now on! Hugs Jo
