My research and asking Doctors say It is OK, not harmful, to have HIGH levels of B-12. So don't worry about that one. Low LDL is a good thing. Desirable. That is your bad cholestrol. Celebrate you 65 lab result. HDL is your good Cholestrol and you don't want it to be LOW. I'm a bit confused about the numbers you posted at the range " HDL should be at least 3.9 and it is 2.7 " These my be unique to your lab or there may be another 'standard' out there. Mostly the labs I see are more in the ranges of 40's 50's Numbers like that. For men Desirable ranges should fall above 40. Women need to be above 50. 60 is fantastic! With HDL higher is better. Guest guest
YAY!! Im gonna live.........lol. There was a typo which confused you and Doc so here is the correct number. HDL 45 and should be 35-85. The HDL ratio is what I posted by mistake. I excercise everyday so I have that part down but I will eat more of the foods you listed. As for water, I definitely have fallen short there so up goes my water intake. Guest guest
I just know our local labcorp office are butt heads and told me they wouldn't let me have it otherwise. That being said they did the labs 2 yrs ago and didn't fax the labs like instructed AND acted like asses when I asked them about it. They spelled his name some wild way and said the report didn't have a number to fax to. They didn't copy it off the form. So they just did the labs and let them sit in the computer without any results to any physician of any kind. Seems to me they would have called me and asked about it or something. Anyway, They told me I needed it in writing on the form. I will always follow through after that incident. I mean what if it had been a panic value like it was in 2004( I spent Christmas getting transfused) and they let it sit. That is a lawsuit waiting to happen and they should have more sense than that. Guest guest
Mel Go to www.dssurgery.com. In the CONTACT section write your request and see what happens. Dr. K does read what is wrote there. He isn't at the meetings all the time anymore...so " seeing " him to relay the info is hit and miss. In fact I don't think I will be at a meeting for a couple of months. Having said that When I do eventually see or Dr. K I have no problem mentioning it to them. One problem that I see. In the very beginning I think there was a note on the labs to Copy to Patient...or to Copy to Primary care Physician....this didn't do much good...at least at MY lab. They told me NO..we will copy to the Doctor on order and he can send it to whom he pleases but WE will only send the labs to one place. I don't know if this is a lab policy that is wide spread or if it was just the gal behind the desk on the day I went and it was 7 years ago. You are completely right...it is a pain trying to get copies of your labs and it creates more work for the office. Hugs Jo
Guest guest
Mel, You're right on target. Your labs are YOUR property and you are legally and thically entitled to them. The lab is NOT entitled to tell you to contact your doctor if you want a copy. I went through this recently myself. Phil ================================================================== > > I have a suggestion that someone might put a bug in 's ear or Dr > K's. Guest guest
Phil, I don't understand why they are so silly about giving you a copy of labs,x rays, and all of your personal medical info. They send you to the doc...Then if you want a copy of your records they charge ridiculous amounts for the copy. I saw one doc's office that charges a 25 dollar search fee and a dollar a page for every page of the record. That is how they get around the HIPPA because how many people can afford 50-100 dollars for a copy of their records? You know when you go to a bank or get loans ect... they give you or at least have to provide you with a copy of everything that you sign and you have to sign tha you were informed of things like interest rates and fees. How much better care would we get if docs were expected to provide us with a copy of all of our labs, tests and other medical information so we can discuss and ask questions in an informed manner? I would gladly sign a paper saying I obtained them. I mean pharmacies have a place where you can ask questions about your meds. Why do docs (Not Dr K, I mean locally, in Alabama) just tell you everything is or isn't ok and expect you to take it at face value? I have a friend who was recently diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. She has been trying to get docs to find out what was wrong with her for at least 5 years. She was told everything fro Fibromyalgia to depression was wrong. In the end it was an easy diagnosis that was noted on a simple chest x ray and noted as a granuloma 5 years ago and ignored by a neurosurgeon as a irevalent spot, stating that most people in Alabama probably had similar spots. It was seen on two other old ct scans- If she had seen the report instead of just taking the docs opinion that it was ok, she might have gotten help 5 yrs ago. Many times I have had docs tell me that labs were fine to get a copy and see that things were not " normal " . I guess you can tell I am frustrated as hell with the medical situation here. It is hard when you don't know where to turn for answers. and when you do go, they send you to a specialist with an appointment in 4 months! Mel In a message dated 12/4/2008 9:00:34 P.M. Guest guest
It is just so frustrating when they tell you to be proactive then they put obstacles in your way at every turn to make sure it isn't easy. I can't imagine how people with limited medical knowledge feels when I am a nurse and stay so frustrated. Or maybe that is the problem, I know enough to be scared or to know what can and does go wrong. Sometimes ignorance is bliss...LOL. Maybe I'd do better with not much knowledge and blind faith to do what the docs tell me...... Mel In a message dated 12/5/2008 7:40:34 P.M. Guest guest
Maybe > I'd do better with not much knowledge and blind faith to do what the docs tell > me...... > Mel ------------------------ lol...I'd bet the Docs would be happier if you just went on blind faith! But Docs need to change with the world. The internet has changed the face of many things and patient medical knowledge is one of them. Some of that " net knowledge " is good valid stuff...some.., not so much. The Docs have to step up to the plate and realize that patients can now find and " talk " to each other WORLD wide, we can compare our medical treatment. We have more questions, and want more input in our medical care. We have become more difficult to deal with as we don't go on blind faith. Add to needing to spend more time explaining things to us they actually have less " time " per patient in order to push the numbers thru their office. I wouldn't want to be a Doc for NOTHING these days. It isn't the job it used to be, it isn't respected like it used to be and the income doesn't match the years and years of education needed, and the insurance and, and, and.... hugs Jo
Guest guest
Nursing has changed also. So many people assume you are neglecting their loved ones when you are doing your best. Do you know I was screamed at going down the hall during a code and " momma's: meds were 20 minutes late. Sometimes a whole shift was putting out fires if you know what I mean. I used to get so mad when people would come asking me stuff I didn't know because the doc ran in and out while they were on the bedpan or something and then they were gone. I'd have to go hunt down the doc. I always told them that they should tell that doc to stop and not let him go until the questions were answered. One example of what I have had to deal with was before I had prescription coverage. I saw the doc, She had been ordering meds that were semi reasonably priced(under 100...LOL) and I was fixing to leave and looked at my scripts. There was a med on there i had never seen before. I asked to talk to the doc and the nurse came back and said she ordered it because it helped fibro pts with alertness. I didn't fuss and left. This was on a Thursday afternoon. I got to the pharmacy and this drug cost almost 300 dollars for 60 pills. I told the pharmacy that I couldn't do it and they would have to keep it. WELL, They tried to call the doc and she had left, they were closed Friday and monday, which normally would not be a problem but they scheduled the visit where my prescriptions had no extra to do the weekend. They do no call and the only option would be the ER for emergencies, and the doc has on all her prescriptions " fill all or None''. So I had to wait until they called me back late wed to get it straight. Several meds your not supposed to stop abruptly(Topamax and an antidepressant that doesn't work if your blood levels drop). So this is what I dealt with here and with the old doc. Be glad you are near Dr K, Like Elle, you know I have had troubles making them understand my needs.
