Guest guest
>Marta, Thanks so much for the advice, I did go to the Nutrition store and purchased some liquid calcium citrate French Vanilla flavor (ha ha)--I think I will stick with this for now and see how it works--I can mix it with a drink if I cannot tolerate it. I really want to be able to get all of the essentials in daily--I am using Profecta protein bullets from Bariatrics -you get 50 grams of protein in 5 ounces of fluid and the flavors are pretty good. I am just drinking one a day to adjunct my other protein intake to insure I get the 80 grams a day. When I spoke to the rep at Bariatrics Advantage they suggested that I take additional A, D, K vitamins as they are also not absorbed with the DS surgery. I knew about vitamin D but was not aware of the A and K. What do you think--I am taking a high potency vitamin with minerals. By the way, because I am feeling so good I think I might have overdone it a bit so am back to getting more rest and trying to remember that I did have major surgery only 10 days ago. I am down 19 pounds also. Robin > Robin, if you want to eat chewables, go ahead. You can swallow pills, > also. Guest guest
Robin The nature of our surgery means we malabsorb fats. Vitamins A,D,E and K are Fat soluble vitamins, therefore we will have more problems absorbing them. It helps if we use a water miscible form of these vitamins. Vitamins like ADEKs are water miscible. Also, vitamins that say " DRY " or " Allergy " are in a water miscible form. For vitamin A you can also take Beta-carotene and your body will convert it to vitamin A, without risk of overdose. I personally don't think it hurts to do extra supplementing of these vitamins right from the get-go....but...Dr. K and your labs are the true 'gauge' of what you need to be taking.
