The fact is, that you will never rid your pet entirely of fleas and ticks, because they are a part of the natural environment that your pet lives in. In fact, fleas are one of the oldest living creatures on this planet, coming in second place behind cockroaches. Also, did you know that fleas and ticks can live up to three years? Implement a Flea and Tick Treatment Plan This means that unless you find and implement some type of effective home remedies, you are going to be stuck having to purchase and use expensive and dangerous chemical anti flea medications. The fact is, that prior to the development of modern chemical anti flea medications pet owners relied entirely on flea and tick home remedies. Treat More than Just Your Pet Any type of anti flea and tick treatment for your pet is going to have to include more than just the application of an anti flea medication to the animal its self. This is because, the fleas actually only spend only 10% of their life span on your pet. The rest of the time they are residing in places such as your carpet or in the pets bedding. Clean Your Pets Bedding There are very effective naturally derived substances that can be purchased online such as Eucalyptus oil, that can be used on the pets bedding. However; simple things such as vacuuming your carpets and having them steam cleaned also go a long way in ridding your pet of fleas. Another thing that you can do is to wash your pets bedding in very hot water at least every month or so to kill the flea eggs in it. Flea and Tick Home Remedies Do Work Still other flea and tick home remedies that you can use are such things as keeping your lawn mowed down close to the ground. Alcohol will kill fleas on contact and that is why so many flea sprays contain it. However; if you are going to use it, don't use rubbing alcohol, because it is poisonous and your pet can ingest it by licking themselves after you apply it.
