Guest guest
I posted this on the DS boards...but thought I would post here as well. ***** posted on the 'bowel obstruction' thread**** Most of the postings I have read refer to left upper or left lower quadrant pain relating to bowel obstruction. I keep having trouble with intermittent pain just under my RIGHT rib cage. It is a 'spot' that has been causing me trouble ever since the doc did a colonoscopy in 2005. He couldnt get very far with it cuz I kept screaming out in pain when he got to that spot (even with all the pain/anesthesia type meds they give you when you get one of those). He was suprised, but just stopped the colonoscopy (said it was unsafe to continue...I agree). I ended up with a blood transfusion and several iron infusions over three day stay at the hospital that time, for severe anemia. Anyway, that SAME spot is causing me some weird painful problems (increasing in the last 7 or 8 months). It is sharp, feels like something is 'pulling/twisting/wrenching' right there. It seems to be more intense DURING a bowel movement and decreases slowly after each 'elimination'. About 3 times over the last 4 months the pain was so exteme all I could do was scream, do breathing excersizes (like lamaze), push/rub the spot, and feel like I am NOT going to be able to get off the toilet! I cant even wipe, flush, or move due to the incapacitating pain. Just sit there with tears pouring down my face, break out in a sweat, trying to breath through it, pushing on the spot (hard..like when you get that cramp while running) and hope it passes quickly. The first time it happened when I was walking down the hallway and suddenly doubled over in pain (felt like I pulled a muscle inside and it was doing a twisting/pulling). I didnt feel like I needed to go to the bathroom, but, after several minutes, decided that might help. (in the past, it has helped my lower back pain if I succeed at a BM). The last two times it happened as I was already on the toilet. (I have severe constipation problems. I call it the 'constipated runs' due to the variety of consistancy, but always hard to 'get er done' so to speak). I usually feel 'bloated' and a bit nausiated just before I have to do a BM. Once the intense pain lessens, usually after I have sat on the toilet and 'eliminated' in waves, it feels as if I have a 'bruise' in the area for several hours/days. (Sometimes I have a kind of 'soreness' in the lower right quadrant along with it) Has anyone else felt the right upper quadrant pain like this? I cant get to a DS doctor (there arent any in my area) and the Navy doctors dont seem to be able to understand my surgery at all. They have suggested it may be a pulled muscle or gas, but have not been concerned in any way. They said to 'keep track' of it and if it becomes too intense, go to the ER or make an appointment to be seen again. I take simethicone for gas, vegetable laxatives every night, eat yogurt every day or every other day, drink TONS of water, eat whole grains (no white flour at all for the most part), walk and/or swim every day, etc. The constipation is mostly due to the pain meds I take daily for my back/knee pain. Just thought I would run this one by all of you to see if anyone has any ideas or experience with this. Thanks, Anne in Santee ******
Guest guest
DR. K has his own e-mail and is very good about answering questions--this might be one that he should answer. There are such things as small hernia, and adhesions that could cause this feeling but the physician who originally preformed your surgery or one who has full knowledge of this procedure should be able to answer or send you in the right direction.
