Guest guest
My 8 yo son had his second therapy session yesterday for his OCD. His main symptom is " bad thoughts. " He also occasionally feels the need to touch something with both hands. At both sessions, the dr. told him to either ignore the thoughts, tell them to shut up, or to keep himself occupied and the thoughts will go away. He asked her why his thoughts always seem to be about his mom or dad, and she told him that maybe he gets upset if we yell at him for something. She said if he feels like he has to touch something, that he should just tell his brain that he doesn't want to. She then spent 15 minutes playing a game with him. Is this CBT?! I could do this on my own if it is! What exactly should she be doing with him at these sessions? I'm just not so sure that she's really doing anything for him. He told me that he spent most of the time telling her about a girl in his class who drives him crazy (she has a huge crush on him, and the feeling isn't mutual!). When I spoke with her afterwards, she told me he's doing very well, he's very smart, and really seems to be trying. What do you all think? What should be done at these sessions? in NJ
