It does get easier. It took 14 years for the schools to diagnose my daughter with aspergers. When she entered highschool, she had an excellent resource room teacher and social worker. With the right meds, school support and outside counseling, things do get better.LouiseTo: autism-aspergers Sent: Mon, June 27, 2011 10:52:14 PMSubject: new to group

hello everyone. just wanted to introduce myself and vent a little. my 10 yr old son has been diagnosed with asperger's. it took 3 yrs for them to finally give him the correct diagnosis. that was a very frustrating and trying time, as i am a single mother. as of this posting, my son is in a childrens psychiatric hospital because he was having sever outbursts, where he was throwing objects, hitting himself in the head, yelling at his toys b/c they were looking at him. his current psychiatrist was of no help, telling me that he's just agitated. well, hello!! i knew that. because the outburts were getting worse over time, he began pushing his 4 yr old brother and 3 yr old sister, i had no choice but to admit him and start all over from the beginning with a new dr and new meds. someone please tell me that it does get easier as they get older!!! thank you all for listening, it was nice to be able to get all this off my chest

Hi, my name is and my 15 yr old son was recently diagnosed with PDD,

Aspergers, insomnia, OCD, etc. Since he started kindergarten at 5 yrs old he has

been suffering from severe anxiety. He cannot go to a regular public school and

is currently in a school for emotionally and behavioral disabled children. Over

the years his symptoms and behaviors were driving me crazy as the doctors were

diagnosing all kinds of things from schizophrenia to schizo-affective disorder.

Since his diagnosis with aspergers I have been able to research and learn more

about his behaviors. I wondered how the doctors missed all of this. I am still

trying to understand this syndrome and don't know if I am handling him in the

right way. He much rather be alone in his room playing video games or on his

ipod than watching television with everyone else. As for his eating habits, that

drives me crazy, because he cannot decide what he wants to eat and I find that

it makes no sense fixing something without his input as it just goes to waste.

He is very sensitive to textures, doesn't want to bathe because of the feel of

the water on him and getting him to brush his teeth is a chore...he doesn't like

the feeling of the brush or toothpaste in his mouth. He is unsure as to what

clothes to put on and will go out in anything he finds. He doesn't like to be

touched or spoken to in a soft voice (whisper). He gets upset when asked simple

questions e.g. are u ok? what's up? did u have a good day at school? He hates

any change in his room and I tend to change things around often..this drives him

into a depression. Sometimes I feel left out, it's like he is in another world.

He cannot go out on his own as he is unaware of things around him, be it cars or

any kind of danger. He takes clonidine, hydroxy pam, geodon and zoloft. I am

hoping that someone can offer me some advice as to how to deal with this

disability and the best way to work around these issues. Is this what asperger's

is all about and does it get worse? I also have no family support as they cannot

deal with his behaviors. No one wants to take him out so I am with him everyday.

He doesn't like to go outside anyway.
