Hello Sharon,

It's been a long time since I have talked with you. Glad to hear you

only have a minor infection. I hope that heals up real fast for you.

How is everything else going? Been pretty busy myself, as you will

learn when you read my posts lol. Will talk to you soon. Until then

take care.

Oh, , that is so awesome!

I guess with the statistics of 1 in 100, we are bound to find others

here and there. But, it's one of those things that can be pretty easy

to hide, at times. I'm glad they shared with each other and can be

support for each other.

> My 10 yr old daughter came home from school 2 days ago so happy. She

told me that her friend had to go to the doctor in the middle of the

school day. My daughter asked her friend why she had to go and her

friend told her she would tell her at recess. This friend, who is such

a sweet girl- the kind of friend all moms dream of their daughter

having shared with my daughter that she had OCD. My daughter was

shocked! She had absolutely no idea. She couldn't believe that one of

her girlfriends that seemed so normal had OCD. They've known each

other for over 3 years. My daughter told her friend that she struggled

with OCD as well. Her friend was shocked too, and had no idea. They

talked about what their OCD issues were and how they both needed to

take medication and go to counseling.

> I can't tell you what this has done for my daughter. She has always

felt so weird and crazy. She has felt like she is the only one with

this problem. We didn't know of anyone else around our small town who

struggled with it, and it ends up that this friend who is in her class

at school and her dance class deals with OCD. I am so thankful that

her friend felt she could share her struggles with my daughter.

Everyone around here is so secretive about their problems. I wish

people would share more and not try to be " Patty Perfect " . We all hate

" Patty Perfect " any way. I use to hold on to the " Patty Perfect "

facade, but my daughter's OCD has helped me get over myself! We all

need eachother so badly. Our kids need each other too.

> My daughter's self esteem has shot through the roof knowing there is

someone else she respects and loves who has " issues " too. I am also

happy for me because know I know a mom close by who is going through

similar issues with her daughter. We are planning on going to lunch

next Friday to talk all about it. I just want to shout " Hooray " ! I

have even noticed a decrease in my daughter's OCD rituals the past

couple of days. This news has helped her to feel less anxious. Right

now, she is with her friend at " Family Reading Night " up at the

elementary school. I am so happy she has found a " kindred spirit " .

Thanks for sharing in my joy!

Hey, it'll be great for all of you, all having support!! And for

some reason, maybe they'll both get through all the therapy/OCD

faster, at least more progress.

Do a happy dance, LOL!

It really is amazing how much it helps to have a friend to share the load!

Kate's biggest issue was with a particular boy at school. This child knew Kate

was afraid of him and it was stressing both of them out. Kate's teacher told me

a story last week. She said, " S. came up to me today and said, 'Kate has OCD

and that makes her scared of me. It isn't ME at all! Now we're going to try to

be friends.' and the two sat near eachother at story time. " Wow! It really is

amazing how well Kate has done with the whole OCD thing -- like having a

'reason' to be feeling the way she does and then sharing that 'reason' has made

all the difference in the world to her!

Good for your daughter and for her friend for opening up the doors of

communication!
