Guest guest
Does your son take generic or brand name? The brand name has been withdrawn by the FDA so there is hardly any left in circulation. The FDA is reviewing a reapplication to be decided on in May. The demand for even generic may be greater as those who used brand name had to switch over to generic. You can also get it from online pharmacies, even from other countries but need a doctor's prescription. Hope this helps. Guest guest
The FDA withdrew approval of brand name luvox because they said they needed more interpretative data from the drug trials--which means Solvay, the drug company, had to present more information and rewrite their application for renewal. There are no safety concerns, however. It is supposed to be just a paperwork type thing according to the drug company anyway. I've heard rumors that if the FDA requires them to do any additional testing that Solvay will quit making Luvox altogether because it won't be cost effective. This doesn't mean the generic will be gone--it will still be there. Many psychiatrists including my daughter believe that only the brand name works well in pediatric patients. Solvay said that they were getting an inordinate number of calls from doctors who are in a frenzy because their pediatric patients are in crisis over the brand name being off the market in the U.S. I hope this explanation is of help to you. This was a wonder drug for him. We finally got relief after trying all the others, Celexa, Prozac, and Paxil. The medication appeared to lose it's effectiveness (as many do) and we switched to the generic form of Anafranil - which has not had the same effectiveness as Fluvoxamine (Luvox) did. Therefore, if anyone is hesitating about the generic Luvox - don't. Give it a try. may got back to Fluvoxamine/Luvox soon. Keeping my fingers crossed, Joni 11, OCD/TS/Moods taking Anafranil, Risperdal (for the moods) and Clonadine (for the tics)
