Kristy,

While I agree about the meds and the years of research, I do feel that

the drug companies do some deceitful things, Like mixing two meds to make them

seem different and getting a new patent so they can continue to gouge

consumers who don't know better. Case in point- treximet is a mixture of the

drug

imitrex which is soon to be available in generic form and an Nsaid which is

available without a prescription. It is a way to continue to rake in the big

bucks on people who don't know better. I know a lady who paid a lot of money

for sarafem (I think that is the spelling) for PMS. Her insurance wouldn't pay

for it as a preferred brand. I told her it was plain old prozac and she

could have gotten it for 5 dollars as a generic. she argued with me the she was

allergic to prozac and was pissed when she found out through her pharmacist

that I was right.

Also years of lawsuits have made the system the way it is. From phen fen

to vioxx, the drug companies have taken some hard hits. I know the avalanche

of commercials wanting people to sue was overwhelming. The whole system is

messed up and needs fixing.

it is important to note

the many years that drug companies invest in research and development with

no guarantee of success. The risks are high for them...if they did not make

money then they wouldn't bother being in the business and we would miss out

on the benefits of these drugs.

The drug companies are not to blame...the government is.
