Guest guest
I developed really severe positional vertigo a couple of years ago when my dental hygienist " popped " me up quickly from a horizontal position in the chair. I ended up in the ER afterwards and have had issues with positional vertigo ever since. My PCP taught me an exercise that really helps - you lie on your stomach with your head turned completely to one side, then very, very slowly rotate face down and clear back to the opposite side. It's hard to explain in writing, but maybe your dr. could show you how to do it. If the vertigo is NOT positional but just occurs randomly or is constant, I'd high-tail it into the dr.'s office pronto. Could be anything from inner ear infection to brain tumor and lots of stuff in between, so it's best to find out for sure! Guest guest
Jim, If by vertigo you mean you feel dizzy when you move your head like when you first lie down, then yes, I had that for a few weeks once. It went away by itself and was likely caused by a virus. No other symptoms, just the dizziness. Listen to , she is right about the range of things it could be. Marta one of my least favorite complaints: " Doctor, I feel dizzy. "
Guest guest
Thanks Marta and ; The vertigo is 24/7 and as said, very hard to explain. I'll call the doctor tomorrow. (I even resorted to drinking pickle juice thinking I'm too low on sodium! - hasn't helped yet.) I'll call my GP but I need to call Dr. K for an appointment there too. _____ From: DS_Friends_Keshishian [mailto:DS_Friends_Keshishian ] On Behalf Of mjs93311 Sent: Sunday, January 06, 2008 6:18 PM To: DS_Friends_Keshishian Subject: Re: Vertigo Jim, If by vertigo you mean you feel dizzy when you move your head like when you first lie down, then yes, I had that for a few weeks once. Guest guest
Marta, Didn't someone several years ago have the same complaint and they were to.ld they were slightly dehydrated? Told them to eat salt or something or am I confusing that with something else? I find when I am dizzy it is associated with a virus or the flu. I keep Meclizine on hand for it all the time because that is usually one of the first signs of a bug hitting me. Mel **************Start the year off right. Guest guest
Mel, that is the type when you are losing fast. I think, since Jim is so far out, that he has a virus or something. Guest guest
Jim I have not experienced vertigo since surgery. I did however have an period of time that it was a problem long, long long before surgery. It was never diagnosed and never came back. My D.I.L. has episodes brought on by sinus problems which affects her inner ear. It isn't uncommon for DSers to have a bit of a problem with vertigo in the first year. Can be related to dehydration. I've heard Dr. K recommend drinking dill pickle juice. It seems to change the density of the inner ear fluid and that helps. You really should see a doctor. I wouldn't drink the pickle juice without increasing the water intake because you can become more dehydrated. Since I know NONE of US would EVER short our daily water intake...LOL....Just a friendly reminder. No matter the cause, inner ear, dehydration, or a virus, increasing water intake surely wouldn't hurt. Mel **************Start the year off right. Guest guest
Thanks one and all; I can't get in to see the GP until next week, but I'm going then. I've been doing the dill pickle juice but it hasn't helped. HOWEVER, I'm developing a liking for dill pickle juice.
Guest guest
LOL I've discovered I'm a snob about the dill pickles; I prefer imported to domestic. A friend gave me a large jar of Polish dill pickles imported from Poland (I didn't know we imported ANYTHING from Poland except people), and they make Valasec pickles taste like crap. _____ From: DS_Friends_Keshishian [mailto:DS_Friends_Keshishian ] On Behalf Of MDL1031@...
