Dear Michele,

The 8th anniversary of the war in Afghanistan is approaching next week. Defense Secretary Gates and General McChrystal have been pushing for a new surge of troops into Afghanistan. This even though the UN reports that civilian deaths in Afghanistan are higher than ever.Thankfully, public support for the war is souring. This is the time to put the pressure on and Peace Action is doing that from many different angles.Right now Peace Action's Program Director Kawika is on a delegation in Afghanistan. Check the Peace Blog for the latest update from directly from Afghanistan by going here.Tomorrow, United for Peace and Justice will hold a national congressional call day. To supplement this, Peace Action members will be calling the White House to remind President Obama that there is no good war. Join us tomorrow by calling the White House at 202-456-1111, and demand an end to the war, not an escalation of troops.Protests in support of the Afghan people will be happening all around the country. The Peace Action staff will be protesting next Monday with Sheehan, Liz McAlister, the

National Campaign for Nonviolent Resistance, Veterans for Peace, the Black is Back Coalition, CodePink and many others. Check it out on the Peace Blog next week or find out more information here.On October 7th, United for Peace and Justice will be holding protests all around the country. Get hooked up with a group in your area by going here. Less than two weeks later on October 17th, Iraq Moratorium will be protesting the Afghanistan war in New York City and the rest of the country. Check

out their calendar and get involved here.In addition to all of the pressure we are placing on President Obama and Congress, it is also important that we keep reaching out and educating the general public. To do this, Peace Action members from all over the United States have been hosting house parties and screenings of Rethink Afghanistan. If you haven't hosted an event in your area, do so now by clicking here.Sincerely, M. Executive Director Peace Action
