Guest guest
Jolene, the only thing that will work for that is a decongestant. There are two types of Sudafed out there or you can use a local nasal spray, but don't get addicted. lol I remember a study showed that taking ibuprofen shortened the life of a cold. You will probably do better with short acting stuff, rather than time released stuff. We are supposed to avoid Tylenol...but using it every once in a big while shouldn't be a issue (stresses the liver). Hope you feel better soon. Guest guest
wow- I take tylenol ALOT. For pain, I take motrin but for allergies and such, I take Tylenol sinus because I dont have to worry about it making me feel sicker than I already feel. Ibuprofen is hard on my tummy and when I dont feel good, I dont want to eat. Tylenol is the only thing I can take without having to eat. Guess I should back off on that one- OOPPS. I know we are supposed to avoid that but I thought that was just in the first 18 months or so. See what happens when I come in the middle of a conversation?? LMAO! Lecture away....................I know I know Vicki Jo wrote: > I'm using Zicam nasal swabs to help it run it's course faster, but > what can I take for the headache and stuffiness? ===================== Jolene...take whatever you would have taken before surgery. Guest guest
Ohh...and saline flushes go a long way is easing stuffiness. How good are you at snorting salt water? Hugs Jo
Guest guest
Thanks for all your suggestions! It's just hard to know what to take as a newbie! My cold started with a sore throat on Friday night and then traveled into my sinuses. I'm beginning to think I have a sinus infection now because it's all in my head! LOL! Well, it's all in my sinuses. It's so hard for me to sleep when I my nose is congested. Tylanol has helped with the headache, but I'm not taking it until it gets real bad. I think (my husband) has some decongestant tabs in his briefcase (probably Sudafed) so when he gets home, I'll try that. But, I may end up at the doctor's office if it gets worse. Does anyone know what color mucus is when it's an infection? My mom and I were in disagreement about it. She said green - I said green is normal. I think it's yellow, if my memory serves me correct. Guest guest
Well, Jolene, it is clear, then yellow and finally green. Not an indication of bacterial infection, but of infection in general. Green means it is drying out. Clear is either normal or alleries. Most infections are caused by viruses and therefore antibiotics won't help you. You can still go give your doc something easy to do, if you want, though! lol If you get a high fever adn redness and/or swelling of the face, go see someone right away, however.
