Weed ~ Part Seven ~ It was a beautiful autumn day: the purple asters were in full bloom, five-finger ivy leaves flamed red from above, the maple leaves had just begun to turn yellow and orange, and scores of mushrooms of every variety -- from delicious black death caps to lurid sulphur shelves that taste like chicken -- were peeking through the moss and forest floor litter. But I couldn't see the beauty. I was too upset about the prospect of losing the land I had just moved on to. The tax bill had arrived that week and it was enormous. Unexpectedly, absolutely, unfairly huge. Where would I get the money? How could I get the money? My pockets were bare after buying the house and land and doing the renovation. What with the down payment and the closing costs and the

lawyer's fee and the title insurance and paint and wood and wallpaper and nails and plumbing parts and more things had demanded money. Money, money, money. The house seemed to be eating it. And now the town wanted a huge pile of it, too.Becoming a Herbalist continued...

Mammograms Are Harmful

Professor , Toronto National Cancer Institute, says cancer cells may be squeezed into the bloodstream under the pressure of the mammographic plates. Screening mammograms are unsafe other ways, too: they expose sensitive breast tissues to radiation, and they increase your chances of having a biopsy and being overtreated for carcinoma in situ.Radiation Dangers Scientists agree that there is no safe dose of radiation. Cellular DNA in the breast is more easily damaged by very small doses of radiation than thyroid tissue or bone marrow; in fact, breast cells are second only to fetal tissues in sensitivity to radiation. And the younger the breast cells, the more easily their DNA is damaged by radiation. As an added risk, one percent of American women carry a hard-to-detect oncogene which is triggered by radiation; a single mammogram increases their risk of breast cancer by a factor of 4-6 times.12Continue learning click here....

I use lots of comfrey leaf, brewed as a strong infusion (put one ounce dry herb in a quart jar, add boiling water to top, cap tightly, steep overnight); but I rarely use comfrey root -- if for no other reason than that comfrey will colonize the garden if her roots are disturbed. Q: Hello,I am trying to find an alternative to hormonal birth control - I have been using the NuvaRing, but am concerned about side effects. When I googled "herbal spermicide" I learned about a clinical trial in India using neem and a couple of other ingredients. However, my pharmacist says he is familiar with no spermicide other than nonoxyl-9, which, when I tried to use it several years ago, gave me a terrible reaction. Can you offer suggestions? Since finding an alternative has been such a challenge I am debating starting the ring again...are you familiar with side effects and/or herbs to counteract them? personally have never heard of an herbal spermicide. The birth control option I have heard many of us choose when concerned about the health of what we put in our bodies is Natural Family Planning, also called Fertility Awareness Method, using charting of three signs - temperature, cervical fluid, and cervical position - to determine when we are fertile. The book I am using on this is called Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. There is also a book and website by Singe, Garden of Fertility.
