, yes to both. Some doc may want you to continue for awhile, he will

need to see what all you take and he will need to check your levels of what it

is you take to make that decision at that time. The hospital does not have

hair dryers or anything like that.

You probably won't need the hair dryer. You won't be too bothered about your

appearance for a few days. Although, one time when I was in DMC for

something or other, a newbie woke up every morning, took her shower and put

on full makeup and did her hair before she'd even walk the hall. I thought

she was crazy.

I didn't take my meds with me because your medical conditions will alter the

minute doc opens you up. If you need something, he'll know about it and

prescribe it. You might just take a list though, which he already has I'm

sure.

Subject: Packing for Delano

A couple of questions as I am trying to pack for this trip: 1) Do we

bring all of our current (meaning pre-op) Rx meds with us? 2) What

about a hair dryer for in the hospital? Do we bring our own or what?

I'd take your moisturizing lotion, a 2-in-1

shampoo/conditioner,etc...little comforts that make you feel pampered,

but you're not going to want to blow dry your hair and put on make up

most likely. I'd tongs or something to help you 'reach' for when

you're going to the bathroom as you're not going to be able to

stretch. I think there's a list of things to take in the links

section? You'll also want a bathrobe as well, for when you're walking

the hallways. I'm trying to think of what else you may need (or would

want), but its been a long time. Some of the more recent post-ops

maybe able to share what they brought or what they wished they had

brought! :)

I took all my meds with me. We saw Dr. K. the day before surgery, he

looked at each one, and told us what to keep taking and what to throw away.

I went from 21 scripts pre-DS to ONE daily after my surgery plus four

others to use on an " as needed basis " for a couple problems that crop up

maybe once or twice a year.

I'd suggest taking everything with you and let Dr. K. make the call.

Always bring your current meds with you to any doctor visits or hospital

visits. It eliminates the need for remembering and can eliminate any confusion

if there are questions.

As far as the blow dryer, I brought my own but don't know if the

hospital had one....Sorry! At the hospitals here I worked at we kept one for

the

floor but it was usually in use somewhere.

Yes, the hospital is going to want to see your meds. Dr. K's staff asks you for

them as well. So, you are going to need to bring them. The hospital doesn't have

a hair dryer, but I don't think you will feel like drying your hair. I have

short hair and just washed it with a shampoo/condition, then let it air dry.

Best of luck to you.

Have faith. You must think you are not forgotten, that something is happening

for you. That we hold you in the palm of our hand, will not falter, nor will we

ever let you go.

I for one didn't care what I looked like and would

have never used a hair dryer, of course I have no

hair to begin with...LOL

Yep, I would bring the meds

Funny you should bring up make up. I was all worried about what I would look

like and did not want to look like I had been through the ringer. Then I had the

surgery. I didnt care what I looked like and even though I had very long hair at

the time, I didnt want it blow dried. The shower alone wore me out. Usually I

cannot stand wet hair or putting on clothes when I am still wet- didnt care

then.................lol. This whole thing is so funny now.

I wouldnt worry about the hair dryer. No need to even make that a concern. But

yes- always bring your meds. It is very easy to forget the strength or whatever.

Im really excited for you

As others have written before me, yes you will need to bring all your

current meds with you. They will ask for them in the pre-op area.

This is a list of items I brought with me, but I didn't use them all.

I'll asterisk what I used.

Light Robe – so I can walk in the hallway without showing my bum!

(They put a second hospital robe over my back. So, I didn't need it!)

*Slippers - Make sure they have a good sole and are not slick.

*Lip balm

Ear Plugs – so I can still get rest even with all the overhead

announcements.

Hand-held Battery Operated fan

Squeeze bottle – for irrigation

*Dish sponge w/ Handle - Tongs work well too, but this was easier

for me.

*Flushable Wipes - wrapped around the had of the dish sponge

Pads - Dr. K said women may get their period after surgery. I didn't.

Ozium - to help with the odor (I can't stand the smell of the

original frangrance!)

*Hand Sanitizer

Back Scratcher - could not find mine, but it really would have come

in handy!

Travel size hand lotion - the hospital has some for you.

*Toothbrush, toothpaste, deoderant, face cleanser, shampoo, etc.

All my medications - after surgery, I didn't need them. The nursing

staff will bring you what you need.

A Book – although I didn't read it.

White shoelaces - they work perfectly for holding your drainage

tubes while you're showering etc. You just loop the lace around your

neck, then loop one end through the tube which already has a loop on

it – tie the two ends together and voila! BUT - the nursing staff

makes something out of tape that works just as well, so you don't need

them! They will even send a strip home for you to use.

*Extra Undies - only needed one pair for the day I went home.

*And something comfy to wear home from the hospital (I bought a

cotton over-sized dress just for this occasion. I'll probably wear it

to the hospital as well.) But, a loose pair of knit pants and a

t-shirt would work, too.

I hope this helps! Good luck on your surgery!

--- >,

I would second the back scratcher!!!! I had horrible itching on my

legs because of the ace bandages, and my husband had gone home to

check on our kids and my sister. I called him and told him to bring

it right away. I was going insane with the itchiness because I could

not reach. It was so bad, (more so because of the pain, immobility,

and coming off the anestesia) that I was in tears. That was when the

nurses came in a adjusted the bandages and put some lotion on for me.

The back scratcher cAme in handy for all sorts of itchiness that one

can't reach. Or items on the table you can't reach.

I would recommend a fan, a personalized one if you have one, because

there are times when I was soooo hot...but then there were times that

I was sooo cold too. lol.

I would say bring lip balm too. I had the worst dry mouth, which is

normal with anestesia. Just know that you will probably pack too

much- like I did, thinking that I might want to read or do a word

puzzle, which I never really got to. For the most part the hospital

will provide you with the basics- tooth paste, toothbrush, soap,

shampoo, lotion, and it is sometimes easier to use that than to dig

through your bags to get your own stuff, esecially the first few

days. I did use my own shampoo, because other shampoos give me

dandruff and dry itchy scalp.

Good luck and God Bless. All will be okay.

==============================

That wing of the hospital (surgical pavilion) has fans for the

patients. Plus you can adjust the thermostat in each room. If a fan

isn't in your room ask for one. If they are in short supply for the

folks wanting a fan...lol...YELL for one.

Hugs
