Guest guest
Deb, The most important thing will be to keep your intake as monotonous as possible. In other words, the same every day. I had one guy I had to put him on ten mg of coumadin, recently. I was surprised! That was higher than usual, but that is just what he needed to thin his blood appropriately. So, any feedback is welcomed from anyone on Coumadin as to how to manage/balance food, supplements, life :-), etc., when one with a BPD/DS has a pacemaker or other condition requiring Coumadin treatment. Thanks! _________________________ As a former home health nurse who used to monitor the coumadin levels of Many, Many people on coumadin, I think I might have some suggestions. When you start your vitamin regime make sure you are consistent with whatever dosage you are taking. You might need more frequent monitoring at first to make sure you levels are therapeutic. But as long as you are taking the same amount regularly the adjustment of the dosage should stay the same. In other words don't take the Vit K one day then forget the next. Make sure the docs adjusting your dosage knows your taking the extra K and why. I wonder if the malbsorption will affect your dosage? Probably not as it is not extended release. But it might take a slightly higher dosage if it does. Working with your docs will make it ok. Mel(Hopefully helpful?) **************Start the year off right. Guest guest
Marta...thank you so much for the quick response! Diet " monotony " is not so bad since I do this already; I eat a variety of foods but, for the most part, I stick to the same weekly routine...my grocery list seldom varies from week-to-week. I have an appointment with my cardiologist the last week in January, then will see Dr. K. on Feb 12; I have kept Dr. K. informed about my a-fib, pacemaker, heart medications (Rythmol, Cardizem, Digoxin) so if Coumadin is added to my list I will discuss with him as well. Hope everyone is well. Thanks again....Deb S. P.S. I do lurk from time-to-time so have not fallen away from the group entirely :-)
Guest guest
Debbie, All the comments have been quite helpful, but I would talk to your surgeon about the Vitamin K/coumadin issue. Your surgeon is the best person from whom to get the information you need. Have faith. You must think you are not forgotten, that something is happening for you. Thanks for the feedback...Deb S.
