Anne, there is a link to labtests online in the link section of the

group's website. I put it there so people can see in plain English

what their labs refer to.

GFR is glomerular filtration rate, your kidney function. Your PTH is

very high! You are obviously not taking enough calcium or perhaps not

enough Vit D? Expect to hear from Dr.K soon.

I have a problem getting enough calcium. I figured I had a worse

problem after Jo posted all those symptoms the other day.

I went to the website you posted in the links. It gave me some

info...but I still didnt understand most of it.

I figured it was a very bad result when that Navy doc took the time to

call me. He had already put in the referral for the Endocrinology

clinic before he talked to me. He was not very informative as to what

the results meant..he just said it can be possible bone disease among

other things and to talk to the Endocrinology people.

(It has to be bad when a Navy doc calls your cel phone!)

I have been trying to fax my results to Dr Z, but the fax number has

been busy. Will have to try in the morning.

Well, you need to chew some calcium every few hours. Are you taking

your calcium with Vit D?

THe reason the doc was vague is because there is a laundry list of

things it could be, but WE KNOW what the problem is, don't we? lol

The results say: Vitamin D2 In shipping Transit; Retinol In Shipping

Transit; 1,25-OH VIT D In Shipping Transit.

Apparently they have to send it to a different lab to get those tests

done.

Anne:

Try the following site..it's pretty good for us non-medical folks.

It can give you a good base to understanding your labs and educating

yourself so when you do go to the Doctor you can discuss your labs

with a bit more comprehension.

http://www.labtestsonline.org/

I'm glad you finally got a good lab draw. You are taking the right

steps in forwarding your labs to Dr. Z. If you don't hear from them

in a reasonable amount of time please do follow-up with a phone

call. More than likely Dr. Z will have Dee send a letter if he sees

a need for specific action. Also whatever action your PCP determines

please forward that info to Dr. Z also for review...just to make sure

your on the right path. It would be even better if you could zip

into Delano for an appointment.

Jo,

I heartly concur. My PCP wanted to put me on some type of meds for what he

considered high blood pressure. I said no until I could get it checked out

with Dr. K. Turns out the meds the PCP wanted me on was a diuretic (sp?)

and, with us post-ops more suseptable to dehydration, not exactly the type

of medication we should be considering. I'm still working with my PCP, but

he learned something about the DS from the experience.

My PCP actually put me on diuretics for a slightly elevated BP which mostly

resulted from walking from home to her office. I took them without checking

with Dr. K's office, and ended up listless, light-headed, shaky, very sick,

and scared. I finally decided on my own to stop taking them, after

realizing that at that state of post-op, I was probably extremely

dehydrated. I also called Dee and told her my suspicions. I DID fire that

PCP, and now have a G/I doc who is willing to learn, and has in fact, talked

to Dee by phone. He has had post-WLS patients before, but not another GRDS

patient except me.
