Guest guest
The school still refuses to see my child as being on the spectrum with the new dx/eval - Are most kids with Asperger's or PDD-NOS still listed under OHI? Is it just my district that is like this or is it common?

Guest guest
Yup, PDD-NOS and Asperger's are on the spectrum but the school did their own eval before I got the dx and refuse to acknowledge his issues. They do not want to list my child as eligible for services under autism - they want to keep him as OHI...any idea why they would insist upon this??? I'm at a loss... > > > The school still refuses to see my child as being on the spectrum with the new dx/eval - Are most kids with Asperger's or PDD-NOS still listed under OHI? Guest guest
Our system did the same thing to us. They encouraged us to take the developmentally delayed "label" over the autism. I did not understand why, she is not delayed in that sense? Guest guest
From what I understand, Developmental Delay only keeps them eligible through a certain grade? Fourth or fifth? Where the autism eligibility will carry them right through graduation. > > Our system did the same thing to us. They encouraged us to take the developmentally delayed " label " over the autism. Guest guest
lol, yup...I'm sure it has to do a lot with money and budgets have been cut for sure. I have found another resource to utilize and the regional coordinator for this non-profit group is helping me again. She's not an advocate but she has offered to attend the next ARD with me and is extremely well versed in the law. Gathering all my info yet again...we'll be reviewing the outside eval and discussing why they don't think he meets eligibility requirements for " Autism " during the ARD. When we are all finished, I'm sure I'll be submitting an IEE request for an Autism Eval and for the previous FBA they conducted in November...I'm exhausted just thinking about it. HA! Trying to laugh through all of this ;-) Thanks to all that replied...even if they don't change his eligibility category, hopefully this will still help us all tweak his IEP more appropriately. > > Money. >
