Guest guest
Well, heres the update on Bodhi and the Vitamin A deficiency the DS and I passed on to him: Today we went to Brisbane to see a pediatric ophthalmologist from the Royal Children's Hospital. Surprisingly, he said he recently had a patient whose mother had the BPD (similiar to DS) and she had a similar Vit A deficiency as I have. She went blind during the pregnancy and her child was born with severe eye problems - he had to have eye surgery when he was 6 weeks old. Needless to say, I was nervous to get Bodhi's diagnosis. The doc checked him out and declared that someone 'upstairs' must be looking out for me...Bodhi's eyes seem normal. We will have them rechecked at 6 months, but as of today he is fine. What a relief! And what a wake-up call to the seriousness of taking ADEKS and having our labs done. I could have really hurt my own health and my baby's too. My Vitamin A is still seriously diminished (I am on prescription supplements) and Bodhi had NO vitamin A in his body at birth. Luckily, through supplementation, he now has acceptable levels. Hope you all can take a lesson from my experience... Kristy
