Guest guest
This is a woman that *cut* special ed funding by 62%. Don't be so sure about her rhetoric. Help is not what I see coming from this woman. Cheryl~Visit my webstore for anything you need related to autism - groceries, supps, therapy supplies, books, and more!http://astore.amazon.com/grystai-20~Check out my blog: http://www.gryffins-tail.blogspot.com/ Palin may be new to the "special needs" aspect of her life but it is going to be a life long journey for her and her family just like all of us. I look at her as a working mother trying to do the best for her family. If feel she can balance both and has been. I commend her for mentioning "To the families of special-needs children all across this country, I have a message: For years, you sought to make America a more welcoming place for your sons and daughters. I pledge to you that if we are elected, you will have a friend and advocate in the White House." There are MANY things our children need (too many to list) that she can help with! I normally don't discuss politics openly but all of us need to take a long hard look at the candidates and what they can do for US!! Guest guest
Cheryl - I certainly agree. If she's willing to cut Special Ed funding so much, then what about Regular Education is not even being fully funded by the Gov't today. But we can afford billions per month over in Iraq - makes me really wonder. Laureen Quoting " cher.lowrance " : > This is a woman that *cut* special ed funding by 62%. Guest guest
I cried when I heard her say she would be our advocate. Sadly, most of us (if not all of us) weren't proactive in speaking out for special needs children until we became parents of one. I liked her before she said that and liked her more afterwards. I think she is amazing. Tina > > Palin may be new to the " special needs " aspect of her life but it is going to be a life > long journey for her and her family just like all of us. Guest guest
I saw the media all over the places critisizing her budget cut 60% on special ed... On the other hand, I can't wait to see this new comer who just became one of us with a special need child to learn about this journey... After she became one of us, she will know what to fight or what to do to take care of her special needs son, along to benefit our sons and daughters. Isn't it ironic? She did not care too much on special ed before, but now she carries the same cross as ours along with our special need children.... Guest guest
The problem is though. How many issues do you think she is going to run into, getter her child services? Probably on a silver platter. She is most likely not going to experience the pitfalls we do, and that may lead her to believe things are great just how they are. Guest guest
that is what I worry about as well.... I hope she is not just using the baby as a political prop on the stage to win voters like us... I really hope she can talk about more about special need population's health care, benefits and school plans in the next couple of months, see how much home work will she prepare not only for getting popular, but also for the reality check... Guest guest
I think 's priorities are not straight. Why isn't she doing what she can for the special needs child instead of politics. She is funny and cute & that her statement made, was a little heart warming, although I think it is all being said FOR THE POLITICAl ARENA.(for the Votes!) I personally think it will be a shame if Obama isn't elected. I think he has so much to offer! Now, here is a man, not holding on to any EGO. True integrity. Largey wrote: > > The problem is though. Guest guest
95% of down syndrome pregnancies are terminated when the parents know ahead of time. I would have a hard time accepting that Palin would use this baby for a political prop. Sorry, but her choice to give this child life speaks volumes of her character IMO. I know how hard it is to raise a kiddo on the spectrum (who btw is recovering thank you God!!) let alone having a child who doesn't have the same hope of recovery. Getting off the political soapbox here. Sorry if I have offended anyone. Guest guest
Are you serious?Governor's and Mayor's have been doing this for years which is why the lowly Community Organizers protest. Now, I don't about Alaska but it definitely happens in Georgia. Now they blame everybody else and those they blame point the finger elsewhere but in the end, that Governor signed on the dotted line. Guest guest
Okay guys, even though I really feel this is NOT the place for political garbage, saying Gov. Palin's " priorities " are not straight is disgusting. How do YOU know what she is or isn't doing for that baby? Wow. Golly gosh, a battle of the sexes again, no one cares if the man has a special needs kid and is never there, but if a woman does it, hold the phones! Did you ever think that maybe her coming into a position of more influence and power, AND being blessed with a DS baby, could be the best thing to happen for special ed needs across the country in a long time? Okay, all done.... (*sigh*).... -- In mb12 valtrex , " " wrote: > > I think 's priorities are not straight. Guest guest
I thought elections were about making a judgment on who will best run the country. Guest guest
That's a positive thing to say Rei. I have to say I am empathetic to her position because I was once a working mom of an infant/toddler with all kinds of medical problems. I was in the military and even after my contracted time was up, I was stop-lossed (meaning I couldn't get out because of Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom). This gave me a horrible feeling of helplessness. Although is not " stuck " in her position as a working mom, I believe people are in the positions they are in for a reason. Maybe she just wants to change the world! Look at all the famous, helpful autism nurses/doctors/journalists/researchers/attorneys who have children with autism, without them and their work our children would have less resources and publicity. It IS possible to be a good mom and work. It is just as easy/common for a stay-at-home mom to neglect her children as it is for a working mom. It's a matter of setting priorities: scheduling or setting apart quality time with your children, and having a good relationship with your child's other caregiver. > > > > > > Palin may be new to the " special needs " aspect of her life > > but it is going to be a life > > > long journey for her and her family just like all of us. Guest guest
Let's not forget there is a meaningful purpose of having a special need child in our life. Don't we get stronger, smarter, more appreciated, learn how to deal with challenges better and become more compassionate to others because our special needs children are in our life. I respect the fact that we all have precious special need children as the greatest teachers to teach us a lot of lessons. Let's look at Palin the same way, and respect the fact that she just got her own special teacher--the special need baby, to open her own eyes of learning something that other presidents will not learn and have not learned---raise a special need child. This is not a coincident, somehow a mother with a special need child is placed in a position as a country VP. We should hope the best and pray for her. ( Personally I wish Hillary win for the reason she has done so much for speical ed in Clinton's presidency.... but at this point, let's hope the best) Sincerely, Rei Branch Manager Network Funding, LP 6070 Gateway East, Suite 509 El Paso, TX 79905 Phone: Fax: Cell: Less in Debt. Guest guest
I for one am tired of people I don't know at the playground, at the school and at the grocery store judging me for what they think I am doing or not doing for my child. We do not know Polin and we do not know that she is or isn't doing what she can for "the special needs child". I am disgusted with those of you who are passing judgement on her as a mother. I do not work but if I could get a job that would give my 2 boys with autism THE BEST health insurance in the world for the rest of their lives, allow me to earn hundreds of thousands in speakers fees for YEARS once my job was over so that they would have financial security for the rest of their lives AND secret service protection into adulthood so I know they'll never end up as disabled adults in a group home being abused, I would do it. I don't know how I would do it, but I would work it out with my husband and support system because that is what would be best for my boys. Recently, my husband left his mediocre job closer to home with okay health benefits for a job that pays more, has a longer commute and carries better health insurance. Do you judge him for taking a job where he is home less but is providing better for his family and his kids with autism? This whole discussion is nuts. I would think as a group of parents who are constantly judged, we could do better and evaluate her as a politician and not as a parent since we no NOTHING about her as a mother just as the people who stare us down in the grocery stores and playgrounds when our kids are having tantrums don't know us. Have a little compassion people. -----Original Message-----From: mb12 valtrex [mailto:mb12 valtrex ]On Behalf Of Sent: Friday, September 05, 2008 2:10 PMTo: mb12 valtrex Subject: Re: Working mom with a "special needs" baby - Palin - Vice President I think 's priorities are not straight. Why isn't she doing what she can for the special needs child instead of politics. She is funny and cute & that her statement made, was a little heartwarming, although I think it is all being said FOR THE POLITICAl ARENA.(for the Votes!)I personally think it will be a shame if Obama isn't elected.I think he has so much to offer! Guest guest
Well said, Dana. It is also appropriate to call to attention the working parents of children with autism who have made a world of difference in our childrens' lives. I don't see anyone criticizing Dr. Amy Holmes or any of the other doctors, reporters, researchers, nurses, actresses, etc. who have put their lives into making a difference for our children. > > > > > > Palin may be new to the " special needs " aspect of her life > > but it is going to be a life > > > long journey for her and her family just like all of us. Guest guest
I think you just need to do your research and vote for who you want to vote for - I feel for her and her child and I'm sure she will try to do what SHE feels is best for people with special needs, but I also know she is very conservative and her child is not Autistic - so will she be helpful with the vaccine schedule or harmful? Will she believe in biomedical or not? We really don't know for sure, but I personally wouldn't bet on it. > > > > > > > > Palin may be new to the " special needs " aspect of her > life > > > but it is going to be a life > > > > long journey for her and her family just like all of us. I watched as and Bill covered up the vaccine debaucle with the CDC and protected Big Pharma by not calling for the recall of vaccines once they figured out the level of thimerosol was too high. This would have prevented ours from getting sick. But I also watched Bill Frist do Bush's bidding and try to put a rider in a bill that would mandate putting thimersol BACK in vaccines. And they were the people who were successful in preventing parents from seeking recourse from the vaccine makers for damage. Still saying, show me the good guys/gals, where are they? > > > >> > > > Palin may be new to the "special needs" aspect of her > life > > > but it is going to be a life > > > > long journey for her and her family just like all of us. Guest guest
Geez, I would think everyone would be excited about the possibility of having someone with a special needs child in a top ranking position. This is what we need...someone at the top looking out for the needs/the futures of our children. Re: Working mom with a "special needs" baby - Palin - Vice President Well said, Dana.
