Guest guest
I get a newsletter from a doctor that sometimes has something in it that catches my attention. This had to do with Vitamin D. It said Vitamin D isn't really a vitamin. Vitamins are defined as organic substances that are obtained from dietary sources and not produced by the body. Our primary source of Vitamin D isn't diet, but rather a complex reaction that occurs when sunlight strikes our skin. Ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation transforms a type of cholesterol in the skin into " pre-vitamin D " , which is further processed by the liver and kidneys into vitamin D3, the active form of this important compound. One of the Vitamin D's primary functions is to maintain normal levels of calcium. In concert with parathyroid hormone, it facilitates the absorption of calcium in the intestines and its movement into the bones. He went on to say that he recommends 2,000 IU units per day of Vitamin D, especially during fall and winter when we have less sun exposure. And that some people require even higher doses to bring their levels up. He says the human body can handle very high amounts of Vitamin D without toxicity. That more than 50,000 IU per day would have to be taken to produce any toxicity at all. Vitamin D is helpful to stave off winter depression, and they have found it is helpful in people with fibromyalgia. He says if you are being treated for fibromyalgia ask for a blood test to make sure you are not low on Vitamin D3, as that can cause symptoms that are sometimes mistaken for fibromyalgia. I know this is long, but I thought that since we are malaborptive and Dr. K has told us to lay out naked for at least 20 minutes to get the sun exposure an the natural vitamin D. That vitamin D makes our calcium get to our bones, as this article states, that maybe there was others out there, that were like me and didn't really realize how much they could, or perhaps should be taking of it, to make their calcium work for them. I just hope that maybe this will be of help to at least one person. Thats all. Pearl **************Start the year off right.
