Guest guest
Im so happy for you. You are in for a great ride. I am almost 5 years out and I have loved every minute of this surgery................even the stinky moments.............lol. Of course you will focus on the food part- the way you can eat after surgery is very delicate. I did very well with jello, chicken broth, and lunch meat (turkey). I didnt have much of an appetite but those foods worked really well. You need to eat high protein so I would really focus on the broth and things like that. Chicken broth became my best friend. I didnt eat the cream kind because I dont like that kind of soup. I got the cup of noodle stuff and it really helped. Many people will tell you to limit what foods you buy before surgery because your taste buds will change. What you may love now may be different than after surgery. You will learn what you like and how much you can eat. Because you wont eat that much at first, stick with protein..........some people have done really well with protein drinks. Vicki wrote: I'm nine days from DS-Day (January 15th) now and I've been reviewing my patient handbook like mad trying to get all prepared. Regarding post-surgery diet, I keep encountering " creamy soups " as a recommended item, but always with the notation of " no milk. " Every creamy soup I've encountered lists cream and/or milk as one of the ingredients, so just what kinds of " creamy " soup are we allowed to eat that don't have milk in them? I'd like to stock up on some stuff so I don't have to go to the grocery store as soon as I get back to town. Also, those of you who came from out of town like I will, did you bring food items with you, or utensils to prepare stuff in the motel room, or what? Did you bring protein powder to make shakes with? I'm not sure exactly how to plan for eating those (few!) things that will be allowed after discharge to the motel room. Also, did you bring your calcium and vitamins with you or did you wait to start taking those until you got back home? OK, I seem to be focusing on the dietary part of this, don't I? Maybe it's because I don't want to think too much about the other parts! (LOL) I'm excited and really nervous at this point! I feel like I want to run around the house yelling " Aaaauuuugh! Guest guest
I used Progresso soups and Healthy Choice. You don't add anything to those, and they worked well. I've also used 's soup, the healthy version without salt, and added water instead of milk. As far as food in the hotel room went, if you are staying at the Best Western, I ate their oatmeal and drank their coffee for breakfast (what little I could eat). Then, we walked to Denny's for lunch, and I had broth from their chicken noodle soup for lunch. I did bring a blender and have a protein shake once a day. But, generally, I brought too much food and didn't use it all. I could barely eat, and Denny's packed the leftover soup for me. That's what I ate for supper. Hope this helps.
I'm nine days from DS-Day (January 15th) now and I've been reviewing
my patient handbook like mad trying to get all prepared. Guest guest
Thanks very much, ! You've been really helpful. It seems I can figure out the big stuff just fine but get stymied by the little details. Bellingham, WA > > I used Progresso soups and Healthy Choice.
