Sweetie

How darn frustrating!

Are you measuring yourself in case you are losing inches instead of

pounds? I'm curious...how many calories are you consuming in a day?

It may not be enough calories and your body is in a starvation mode?

I don't know, its just a thought.

Don't lose heart...regardless of losing weight, you know that eating

right and exercise is a healthy habit to have. Sigh...I do hope the

scales reward your efforts very soon.

Rocky,

I hope your dedication pays off! Sending positive vibes your way. I

wish your body wasn't just so all out stubborn! I swear it's going,

'Well, you'll thank me when there's an apocalypse!', but that doesn't

really help now!

*huge hugs*

Boy, Sharon, I can so relate! I just had my DS on January 15th, so

I'm here expecting this first 6 or 7 weeks to be the " big loser "

weeks, right? Ha. Not to be. I did OK weeks 1 thru 3 - lost 26

lbs. But since then? Practically nada. In the last 3 1/2 weeks

I've lost exactly 3 lbs. I literally don't know what to do. Dee

recommended adding some fat to my diet to help " grease the tubes, " so

to speak, so I have done so, but with virtually no effect at all. I

finally got so frustrated I literally downed 1/2 of an 8 oz.

container of cream cheese yesterday with some celery sticks. It

certainly made me feel awful, but had only a very slight effect on my

BMs and certainly didn't initiate any weight loss. So here I am

almost 7 weeks out and only down 29 lbs. I'm going to the pool twice

a week for water walking, to the gym twice a week for resistance

machines, and on the treadmill at home more days than not. I'm not

eating hardly any carbs at all. I'm drinking constantly. Not eating

sugar. And yet I feel like I'm very close to failure at this. How

can this be? Don't get me wrong - I'm very, very happy to have lost

those 29 lbs. It's just that I had such high expectations for those

big numbers that I've heard so much about in the first weeks from

others on this board. I guess I feel like I've somehow missed my

biggest opportunity for that dramatic big loss and I'll never have it

back again. So I'm here in your corner, girl, rooting hard for you!

I want to hear that you've started losing and figured it all out.

Then I'll not only be happy for you, but have some hope for me, too!

I've just gotta' believe that there is SOMETHING that will unlock

this process for people like us who are just STUCK! Believe me, if I

get it figured out, you'll be the first to know. Good luck and keep

hanging in there!!!!

Everyone is so different in how they respond to the DS. I was a slow loser and

it drove me nuts. but, three years out I found I'd lost 150 pounds. I'm now 5

years out (last December) and I'm down 160 pounds and only fluxgate a few real

pounds (water retention is another story!).

So, try not to stress out about how fast you lose the weight. Actually, slow

loss is better as it gives your skin time to adjust and you don't get hog jowls.

Also, it gives your body more time to adjust to the loss. So, chin up and just

eat the protein and drink the water. All will be well.

Aah, Jim, you do give me hope! Thank you for those encouraging

words. I was beginning to feel like the " DS Freak " who did the

operation that didn't work!! It is really, really good to hear that

others have been slow losers, too, but eventually succeeded. Muchas

gracias, mi amigo!

Writing down everything you eat is a great wl tool. It keeps you aware

and accountable, but it is also a pain in the butt, so I admire you for

rising to the challenge. Since you are writing everything down, you

may want to consider using www.fitday.com to journal your food. It

will help you calculate your calories, your protein, your vitamins,

what % of your diet is coming from fats, carbs....it is an interesting

tool to help you be aware. I use it a couple times a year for a week

or so...just to keep perspective.

Yea, thats me, waiting for an apocalypse, or a famine then I will be

the only one to survive and can run around nekid if I want....

:)

Thank you lee and Anita for being such good cheerleaders. I

really do appreciate the support. It can get depressing when you go

to a support group meeting and someone asks you when your surgery is

going to be....

this too shall pass...

love and hugs to you both

Ya know, I forgot about fitday. But I have been using Sparks People.

If anyone is interested I will email you the web site (I get points

for that too ;) ) It has motivation, recipes, and tracking.

It is a fun diversion for an unpleasant task.

Huge congrats on your healthy check up!

love you

Rocky,

That's definitely got to be hard! *hugs* Is there any way Dr. K can

check to see if your common channel has grown, without doing surgery?

As I'm sure all revison patients are aware, a second surgery is

potentially more complicated, but when you're body is fighting so hard

against you losing weight, sometimes it needs to be considered. Are

you having any knee pain, etc?

You're healthier now and you're still a success, but I absolutely

understand the frustration and depression of not being where you hoped

to be, especially when you're trying so hard and for others it seems

to just be a stroll the park to lose the weight! If we didn't love Jo

so much, wouldn't you just want to pop her one when she had her one

regular Pepsi for the week? :)

Love & hugs,

Anita
