Guest guest
Isn't screeching and the other stuff all symptoms of autism. How can they punish the poor kid for being himself. Does he have an IEP? Is there a behavior plan in place or are they just wingin' it? My middle son(ADD) had a teacher 1 year that was sending home constant unhappy faces so I would reward or punish with the playstation. 1 week he got soo frustrated that he got suspened on Monday went back Friday and ended up getting suspended again on Friday afternoon. I was at whits end he was off the wall. Then I found out after months of this that when it all started with the unhappy faces, the teacher would give him an unhappy face if he forgot to raise his hand. In the teachers defence, it as her 1st year teaching. I still gave her what for though. Then I went home and hugged my son and told him I was sorry.Angie wrote: It's the same thing. He won't stop screeching his is too loud. We tried taken away computer privileges. If he is good then he can get on the computer, if he is bad then he can not. But anymore he don't care. I am at my wits end. I just want to bawl everytime I pick him up from school. I don't want to put hm on medication. They don't really know the long term effects of most meds. Guest guest
In writing request a multi functional evaluation. This will help find out where he struggles and what causes it and how to help him. They should then do a behavioral intervention plan with positive reinforcements and also make accomodations necessary for him to be successful in his day. Make sure you get it in writing!!!! Leave a paper trail or they can take their own sweet time doing anything to help. Been there! Keep us posted Allie

Guest guest
They allow the screeching to a certain degree. But now he has just gone wild. Doing it for attention and when he don't get his way. he didn't used to do this. This all started about th beginning of November. They are suppose to be working on a behavior plan and a sensory diet. He actually had and I quote " A good good day " on Friday. But I don't know what changed. I did not change anything at home and the class didn't change either. > It's the same thing. Guest guest
Hi Angie, I can really identify with what you wrote about school. I have experienced similiar situations. My daughter , we laugh at times because she is non-verbal but will constantly make singing sounds and kinda chats nonsensibly. I call it her buddist chats cause it is almost hypnotic and it gets in my head and makes it very difficult to concentrate on anything LOL. 's school right now has been pretty understanding cause she is in special education, but at home sometimes it drives me nuts! She is autistic and has an autistic teacher and an aide, which they are both great but its taken me forever to get this in place. Before them I would get calls all the time it drove me crazy! I am sorry to here you are having such a time perhaps something could be worked out at an IEP meeting? I am not a supporter of medications unless they are really serverely required so I agree with you in terms of the meds. You are not alone and I find a sense humor some days can go a long way. Take care. Sincerely, Pam P.S I like your screen name Re: Every Day.... Isn't screeching and the other stuff all symptoms of autism. How can they punish the poor kid for being himself. Guest guest
Angie, our son went through a stage where he refused to do his work at school. We were able to break the pattern by using positive behavior support. He is in middle school and the class periods are 45 minutes. If he finishes his work before the class is over, he gets to choose from things like using the computer, going to the library or time with a favored adult. It’s a bit of a hassle for the teacher, but sure worked wonders!!
