Guest guest
Hello, I am a mother of an 11 year old with autism. Some of you may have heard of the " scream rooms " in our town as it has hit the national media. (google scream rooms middletown ct if you would like) My son was in a program in town that was meeting his educational and social development needs. The town shut down the program without answering why it was done so and brought our children into the town elementary schools without the infrastructure to keep our children safe. I witnessed my son in a time out room playing with an open circuit box. What was once a closet was transformed into a time out room without planning for my son's safety. A para was standing in the time out room holding the circuit breaker closed while he was attempting to get it by hitting her. I wrote a petition calling for the termination of the three paid pupil services directors on our administration. They are the ones responsible for services of our special needs community. Many parents are afraid to speak out but some have. The stories that I continue to hear are horrifying. I am asking for support. If you care to....and I'm not asking you to agree with anything that you dont; would you take a look at my petition and consider signing it? If you have questions about it, please feel free to ask me. The media has been all over this, but it doesnt seem that they have my son's best interest in mind, just what sells sensationalized news...SCREAM ROOMS. I'm stressed, my family is stressed and most importantly with all these news vans popping up at my home, my child. anyway, thanks for being a support, and any advice or advocacy groups that could help us would be appreciated. jane http://www.change.org/petitions/middletown-connecticut-residents-seek-change
