Guest guest
Hello Sharlene, I believe Plaque Off is made from a brown algae. It does have iodine, vitamin D, and some chlorine and a bunch of other minerals, but I don't believe it is actually a chlorine dioxide product. You can test this by mixing some up, then adding some acid to the mix. If it turns yellow and has a chlorine dioxide odor, then it may have some sodium chlorite added to it. If it doesn't " activate " they are using different minerals to get their results. Tom > > Today, I went to the pet store to look for an enzyme called Leba II for my dog (our dog's vet used to carry it but not anymore), or at least an enzyme similar to it. Leba is used to melt the plaque off your pet's teeth. > > Instead, I found " Plaque Off " by Triple Pet and I wanted to report that it is a chlorine dioxide product! The directions say to add it to your pet's water. I was impressed that a company has it bottled and available at pet stores. Of course, I would prefer to buy it from and save a lot, it retails for $12.69 for 8 oz. The dilution is 1 capful for 24 oz (710 ml) of water. > > Just thought you'd like to know. > > Sharlene >
Guest guest
Hi Tom, Let me know what you think. It states on the label: " What makes it work: Yucca Schidigera, a natural Yucca plant extract, combined with Chorine Dioxide, makes Plaque Off very effective. " " Stabilized Chorine Dioxide acts as an oxidizing agent enhancing the exchange of oxygen at the cellular level, oxidizing hydrogen sulfide and ammonia molecules which reduces breath odors. It breaks up food films in the mouth to help prevent plaque and tartar build up. " " Ingredients: Purified water, stabilized chlorine dioxide, yucca schidigera, mint oils, sodium benzoate (preservative). " " Ingredient uses: Base: purified water, Tartar/Plaque Control: stabilized chlorine dioxide. Odor Elimination: stabilized chlorine dioxide, yucca schidigera and mint oils, Perservative: sodium benzoate. " " Benedent Corporation P.O. Guest guest
Hello Sharlene, Oops, it appears there are at least two versions of Plaque Off... Yours has sodium chlorite in it. The one made from brown algae can be found here. http://www.plaqueoff.com/proden_plaqueoff_animal/clinical_trials.htm http://www.plaqueoff.com/proden_plaqueoff_animal/clinical_trials/marina_nordlund\ _01.pdf Tom > > > Instead, I found " Plaque Off " by Triple Pet and I wanted to report that it > is a chlorine dioxide product! Guest guest
Lynda - Duh, the light bulb just went on. I never thought of taking Plaque Off myself, though I knew they make it for humans. Thank you so much for the info - can you please let me know if you think it's working? Since it's kelp, does it have an impact on the amount of iodine you take? I assume you take Lugol's or Iodoral. He was dumbfounded. I didn't mention the kelp. They have clearly changed the label, it used to name the seaweed, which is Ascophyllum Nodosum. You can get this same seaweed from iherb.com (the brand is organic and called Oregon's Wild Harvest Kelp and a lot cheaper than Plaque Off - http://www.iherb.com/Oregon-s-Wild-Harvest-Kelp-90-Veggie-Caps/37339?at=0 ) I'm using that now so will see if it has the same effect as Plaque Off. Guest guest
Hi Margee, We actually took the Plaque Off for dogs It worked brilliantly. The Oregon's Wild Harvest organic kelp is a higher concentration of Ascophyllum (not on the label - but they told me it's approx 900 mg iodine per capsule), so yes I count it into the amount of iodine I take from other sources. Guest guest
That's probably 900 mcg of iodine, not mg.
