What type of testing do they do officially for Aspergers? My son has

ADHD/OCD/ODD and sensory issues. I suspect he is Aspy which is why I am on this

list. He doesn't look at you when you speak, has had poor eye contact since he

was an infant, has a horrific temper over the smallest things, comes unglued

when the schedule is not followed, has poor peer relationships as he cannot read

social cues or body language, picks his fingers and skin, but he can play guitar

music by ear only. From what I have see online, these are all Aspy signs.

I am trying to figure out who to take him to and what tests needs to be done to

test him officially for this.

Any help would be appreciated. He is almost 10 and has been on meds for the ADHD

since he was 6.

Thanks.

Well...I had the school evaluate him first before seeking an outside eval and

that was a mistake for us.

Our pediatrician referred us to a Developmental Pediatrician but there was/is a

6-8 month wait to see her...Our local " aspie " expert is a psychologist that used

to work at the same child study center with the DP I mentioned above. She's the

one that made the dx.

We had five one hour appts - rating scales/achievement tests from the school's

AU eval were used but she also did some of her own. Most of that data already

jived with an AS dx, the rest was based on direct observations, parental reports

and home videos.

He's been doing OT for his sensory issues for about two years and was thought to

have ADHD too. We tried meds and we were still having problems. She also watched

my two kids play together to get an approximation of what peer interactions

would be like. She said there was no question (even though he tries to be social

and the school says he makes " good eye contact " ) that he's on the spectrum.

This doc said mine's not ODD, although that's how his teacher " sees " him/rated

him on the Connors. Mine does have some OCD tendencies, a need for schedules and

a difficult time with transitions. Mine bites his toes (yup, gross) and chews

shirt collars...he uses Chewlry instead now. Fails basic TOM tasks, like the

Sally-Anne and Smarties tasks too.

Anyway, yes...from what you've listed, I can see aspie traits too and an eval

seems warranted. I'd start with you main doc/pediatrician and see what they say.

Good luck!

I'm in Texas if you need info there...
