Guest guest
Hi Colleen/Cameron Colleen, was this the case for your child? If so is the OCD less still? Our son's onset was sudden as well, but they ruled out strep. They seemed to indicate that the relationship was not conclusive. That there was a correlation, but not nec causal relationship, ie strep can be a trigger but not the cause. Does your son take antibiotics ongoing, or periodically? Cameron, you say you use antibiotics prophylactically with your son. Could you explain? Does he take them on an ongoing basis, or at the start of a flare up of strep/OCD? I have wondered how this is handled. I have just read in Psychology Today that Lyme disease can create OCD symptoms, never heard of this. We were on holiday and in wooded area when our son's OCD came on overnight. So I am going to request a blood test to rule this out. Never heard of it until this article. I imagine there could be many possible causes, and or triggers for this disorder. Hopefully further research will make this clearer. Guest guest
My son's latest antibiotic treatment has been a little over a month, I think. Then we will see how his body does. If we continue to observe recurrent strep infections that are concurrent with anxiety spikes, we may have to look at more aggressive options. Let me be clear on one point, however. I do feel that my son had a predisposition to this disease. I don't really think that if he had not been predisposed, that strep would have cased him to develop OCD. However, I do believe that the strep was a trigger. Something else may have triggered it later in life. Cameron > > Hi Colleen/Cameron > > Colleen, was this the case for your child? Guest guest
Thanks for explaining Cameron. I hope the antibiotics have the desired effect.
