I was wondering if anyone (Tom?) had ever considered using MMS for

certain plant/tree diseases?

We have some Leyland Cypress', and all of them have one of the common

diseases (we think it is Cercosporidium Blight) discussed here:

http://www.auckersnursery.com/growing.htm#disease

The two products mentioned are oxidants - one (ZeroTol) is essentially

just H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide), so I was thinking that MMS might be worth

trying.

I have a bunch of the 28% (22%?) solution, but was wondering what would

be a good concentration to try. We have one of those hose attachments,

where we can apply liquid fertilizers/treatments mixed with the water,

and the dial that controls the amount is calibrated in either tsp/gallon

or ounces/gallon.

So, if I fill it up with the 28/22% concentration, what should I set the

dial at?

Thanks...

Hello Tanstaffl,

In a pump sprayer mix up enough solution to drench the problem areas. We have

had success using a 600 PPM available chlorine dioxide solution with about 120

PPM of that as free chlorine dioxide. Spray it on after the sun goes down and

let it soak in all night. If the infection is well advanced, it may take

several applications.

So far, knock on wood, we haven't killed any plants and many fungus problems

have been eliminated.

In a glass mix 20 ml of 5% sodium chlorite and add 5 ml of 50% citric acid.

Swirl to activate and let the activation continue for 10 minutes. Then add 1

liter of water. If you need more than 1 liter just multiply the amounts used.

In this case it is important to use 50% citric acid in order to obtain the

correct amount of free chlorine dioxide.
