Guest guest
Hello Overstressed, In oil drilling sodium chlorite is used to control hydrogen sulfide. The sodium chlorite is activated by ground water and releases chlorine dioxide. I believe the chlorine dioxide is responsible for eliminating, or reducing, the concentration of hydrogen sulfide. In flue gas scrubber systems, chlorine dioxide is added to the gas stream to eliminate the hydrogen sulfide from the gas. The same goes for waste water treatment. In the body no one knows what happens because it hasn't been studied. However, a reasonable guess would be that some chlorous acid is absorbed and as it breaks down a small amount of chlorine dioxide is released. If the chlorine dioxide happens to be next to some hydrogen sulfide, it could break it down as well. As you have indicated the chlorine dioxide has a very short life in the body (seconds to maybe minutes), so we are left with chlorite. Chlorite is also an oxidizer and it is unstable. Under the proper conditions, it can possibly turn back to chlorine dioxide, but most likely turns into chlorate (another oxidizer) on its way to form chloride. There seems to be a back and forth reaction between chlorite and chlorate, and chlorite seems to have a half life of about 2 days. In theory, there could be a build up of chlorite over time, and it is possible that a high enough concentration could be made to bring it to the point of being able to disinfect. On the other hand, the chlorous acid may be doing all the disinfecting and chlorine dioxide and chlorite are simply by products. The bottom line is that until this is studied in depth, no one knows. There is too much hydrogen sulfide released, so could it be that MMS is influencing this metabolism ? > > I'm pretty sure it doesn't kill viruses/bacteria in the body, because it is synthesized in the body(chlorite ?). At least, that is what I'm observing, if I quit MMS, my misery starts all over again. > > Any explanation for this, Tom ? > > Much appreciated, > OS. >
