My son rewinds all the time. I used to allow it, but I've stopped because he wouldn't watch TV at all unless he could rewind. So any way he could rewind (remote, DVD player) we put out of his reach. He's since started to watch TV appropriately and doesn't ask to rewind anymore, although if I gave him back the remote he would still want to rewind. He just can't help himself. My opinion is to try and prohibit it, but I know how hard it is to do that. Good luck. beachnfam wrote: Anyone out there have a child who wants to rewind movies? If so how do you handle it? My son is 4 and has been rewinding movies since he was a little over a year old. I let him rewind most of the time because he tends to go to the parts he thinks is funny or he just likes to listen to different songs over and over. I think if it isnt causing a problem than why not let them do it.

I have also been told by staff at my sons school that stims are something they feel the need to do. If you prevent them from doing the stim they will always want to do that stim and their needs wont be met. If you let them stim eventually their body will get over the need for that stim and probably find a new stim. I feel as long as its not harmful than let them do it.

Not yet, but things like flushing the toilet constantly etc. have been

ongoing behaviors/stims we'd like to cut down on. Your post about

rewinding reminded me of a post called Holland Schmolland and I'll try

to find it and post here.

Oh yes...the rewind button. My son did/does this. He used to do it with the

volume button (turn it all the way UP!) so I ended up popping off the volume

button and controlling it myself by remote..yes...I was desperate :)

Same here, my son does it too all the time with the VCR and now my daughter with the DVD player. The only thing that keeps them from fighting is that my daughter knows how to review on the DVD and not the VCR, and my son only knows how to rewind the VCR and not the DVD player. They think it's funny. My son does it with music as well, and I let him if it is his music he is listening to. wrote: My son is 4 and has been rewinding movies since he was a little over a year old. hello to all.

i need some information. some time ago i saw a post on the net some place where this dad invented something to keep his autistic son from changing the channels on the tv all the time. we have a 17 year old son who is obsessed with watching tv. if you let him, that is all he wants to do. to get him to stop you risk his coming totally unglued and get very aggressive. he lives in school for autistic children and they have the same experience with our son. anyway...this dad invented this device where by if the child stays a certain distance from the tv it stays on. but if he gets into that certain range, the tv turns off. not long the child learns to stay that distance away from the tv. does anyone on the list remember hearing of this? thank you in advance.

My son likes to rewind, too! Why the fascination with so many of our kids who are "rewinders?" Is it because they can have control over that facet of their environment? There've been times I wish I could rewind some parts of my life! Anyway, when it would get out of hand I'd tell my son to stop rewinding or the TV goes off. I've even discreetly unplugged it a couple times. Now it's not so much of a problem.
